Spoilers on default Airbus 320

Recommended Posts

I am having difficulty landing and I think it may have some thing to do with how the spoilers are deployed/not deployed. There are several commands in FSUIPC but I do not know which is the correct one to assign to a button: Spoiler Dec, Spoiler Inc, Spoiler Arm Off, Spoiler Arm On, Spoiler Arm Set, Spoiler Arm Toggle, Spoilers Off, Spoilers On, Spoilers Set, Spoilers Toggle. The first two are self explanatory but the other commands seem to be variations of the same thing. My understanding is that arming the spoilers should not deploy them and that this should be automatic on touchdown. Trouble is I'm too busy concentrating to change the view to see what is happening. Is there any indication in the cockpit that the spoilers are armed and subsequently successfully deployed?

I normally check my speed brake/spoiler armed indicator to make sure I have them armed for landing. After landing and pulling off the runway, you can jump to an outside view to see them raised. They need to be manually lowered.

You're wrong there.

When armed they extend as soon as you are on the ground.

So when you arm them while parked, they extend.

Try in flight.

And partially extending works too. Not sure if it will be visible in the outside model of the a321 default, but the partial loss of lift effect sure is there.

My default Airbus 321 does not show a gauge for the speed brake as you suggest mrzippy, it displays the aircraft Tail number in that position.

Alan

Well.....what would you rather see? A non-changing tail number or a working speed brake/auto-spoiler warning??

I'd suggest you download the Project Airbus A320 family package, which includes quite a good A321, probably the best freeware one. I'm a huge Boeing fan, but I fly A321s from the package quite often, simply because they nailed it to the head.

About the Spoilers - in the Project Airbus planes, the spoilers are armed automatically before takeoff and landing, without you needing to press anything. On takeoff, as soon as you advance the throttle to T/O thrust, the spoilers will be armed automatically. They will also be armed automatically immediately upon lowering the gear, before landing.

I stand corrected. I deleted my post. Thank you for pointing that out.

All good stuff il, but I think GridNorth is anti-screen button clicker and wants to use his keyboard only. I could be wrong! Thought I was wrong, once, but I was wrong!;)

Hi Egsjr,

I too thought for a long time the fsx spoilers didn't fully work and only did retract/arm/extend. Only found out recently they are more sophisticated. Was a nice surprise.:)

Glad I could help.

mrzippy: You are correct, to date I have managed to eliminate most of the mouse usage. Easy in a Cesna but a little more difficult in an Airbus 321 :-)How do you get that Flight Control panel to display? That looks like a useful panel. Am I right in thinking that "armed" does not mean"deployed"? I know how to deploy the spoilers but my understanding was that if they are armed they should deploy automatically on touch down. Mine do not appear to do so.

The issue I have is that the PAPI lights are all white but I get warnings that I am too low but I overshoot the runway.

By pressing the FCTL button underneath the MFD using a mouse click. Armed does not mean deployed! Armed means deployment when mainmounts touch the runway. Don't look for spoilers to be up until you are on the runway unless you manually deploy them earlier.

I just did mine, I had to copy the B737_800 cabinet from the Boeing panel.cfg to the Airbus A321 panel.cfg and then all worked! I installed the annunciator in the section below, and that allowed me to keep my aircraft reg where it was before. I used coordinates 258,475,67,19 and all worked well!

Odd, haven't "roasted" anyone in a while? I usually get my roasting done over at the "other" site where I moderate with an iron boot!;)
