runway 14 left
I'm running the FSX steam edition without any add ons. Anytime I click on options in the top menu bar, the screen goes black and whatever I clicked on does not come up. If I hit the ESC key, the screen goes back to the cockpit view where it was before I clicked on the menu bar. The problem is I cant pull anything up while in the sim, no map, no weather, no flight planner, no end flight screen. Is this a bug, or is there something I need to differently? ScatterbrainKid
Beats me, but no doubt you'll soon get replies from the experts. Meantime try bypassing the menu bar by hitting the keyboard hotkeys instead to see if that works.
Egsjr1956
Whenever you have a problem with a steam game, try this first. Open up the steam.exe. Open your library and right click flight simulator. Click on properties, and then local files tab. Then click on "verify integrity of game cache". This usually straightens out a lot of problems. Thanks for the suggestion. I did that, unfortunately, it didn't make a difference.
JSkorna
This sounds like a UIAutomationCore.dll problem. Download the correct version of the file from http://www.search-dll.com/dll-files/download/uiautomationcore.dll.html and copy it into your FSX root folder. Do not delete any other copy of the file on your system. FSX-SE already contains the uiautomationcore.dll fix. No need to mess with anything there. http://www.air-source.us/images/sigs/000219_195_jimskorna.png

loki
The Steam Edition already has the UIAutomationCore.dll installed in its root folder.
longbreak754
It could be linked to one or all of the following....... If using Win10 and running FSX in Full Screen mode - try using Alt + Enter to switch to Windowed mode and test. If using Win7/8/10 it could be related to the Preview Direct X 10 mode in use. Check what your current setting is on the Graphics Setting page. If ticked, untick the box and test. Regards Brian
