bglcomp.exe and bglcomp.bat not working

Have tried both bglcomp.exe and bglcomp.bat but all I get is a quick flash(MS-DOS) on the screen and no conversion from.xml to .bgl using ExcludeBuilder in FS2004.What am I doing wrong? Why is a program supposedly simple to use like ExcludeBuilder giving a lot of headaches not just to me but many other simmers?I have also FS2004SDK which gives the same problem even though I have installed all the correct .DLL´s.

You should not need to use bglcomp to compile, ExcBuilder should be doing that for you.

Two things to try:

1. Download and install MSXML 4.0. It says it is for Vista or earlier, but I'm using it in System 7 just fine:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=15697

2. To see the error message (if any) when you run BGLComp, download and use Compile Helper instead. It will display any error messages that may appear.

Download:

http://www.scenerydesign.org/compilehelper/

Instructions:

Hope this helps,

One common mistake with ExcBuilder is forgetting to make sure your plane is pointed due north.

Doing so gives some bad lat/lon numbers that confuse the compiler.

Tom, would it be proper to say that MSMXL should be installed using the following updates...

MSXML 4.0 SP2 (KB954430)

MSXML 4.0 SP2 (KB973688)

MSXML 4.0 SP2 (Parser and SDK)

That's what I'm using and it seems to work OK, but riding on the sholders of giants, would love a nod and a confimation.

Thank you all for your advice,I have set the autogen slide to normal in FS,changed the comma to a decimal point and used ExcludeBuilder which has now produced a bgl format which I can now use as an exclude bgl,the active MSXML is 4.0 sp.3,which has just been updated automatically about an hour ago,but by reducing the autogen to normal will this affect any other scenery?benibaz.

Yes, that is a global setting.

If the exclude is working, it does not matter what the autogen setting is, there will be no autogen in the exclude area.
