Want to build new FSX rig for ~ $1000 - can it be done?

Recommended Posts

I have never built a PC before, so I'm flying blind, lol.

Currently using a Dell Inspiron with Pentium Dual Core E6700 @3.2 Ghz and AMD Radeon HD6450 with 8GB Ram.

It is actually not bad at all, but it does require some compromises on sliders and display options.

I was wondering if, for around $1000, I can get a better rig. I'd like to try building, but I have never done one.

I have read about the Intel I5 and I7 processors being favorites of FSX builders, and that Nvidia cards are popular.

Just browsing around on Newegg is making my head spin. So many options with cases, boards, cooling systems, etc.

So I'm looking for specific suggestions on what to get. I really don't want to mess with Windows 10. Windows 7 64 seems to be so good with FSX, I can't imagine why I would want to try anything else--what could be the benefit? This machine will be strictly FSX.

Thanks!

Does the 1000 include getting a monitor, win7, and controllers? If so, specify monitor and controllers please?

Ha, I should have qualified that! No monitor, controllers. Probably need WIN 7 64. So I just need the box and suitable OS. It seems like Win7 costs more than 8.1?

I have been browsing ready-made, customizable machines and found this:

I think this is a nice build for more or less 1000$. I'm not sure abou the keyboard/mouse being good, but their reviews are quiet positive.

Hope it helps,

Jan

  • 4 weeks later...

Here's what I have:

MOBO: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B9BDB14

CPU: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009O7YORK

RAM: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0042A7CAA

PSU: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0092ML0OC

All of that, plus a DVD RW drive was: $383.11 (I didn't check current prices)

The video card:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JM5XX9O

I got it for $89 with shipping, but apparently it costs much more than that now: $180

I have all of my sliders turned up and FSX runs fine, except it CTD's after I click enough menus. I also get occasional frame stutter, but rarely enough I can live with it.

*EDIT*

Sorry, I didn't realize this was a month-old topic until just now

echo "Hey, wait! This is a trap! ";
} ?>
