I already reserved my copy. The one question I had is what version 10 do you get. For me I have now windows 8.1 pro, I will receive windows 10 pro. I believe if you have the right machine and you are good at configuring FSX there shouldn't be any problems. I watched a two hour video on the design of windows 10. They really put a lot into this design. Over the years I find it amazing what is being done with technology. It has really improved my sim experience. I'm counting the days!!!

We have a year to make a decision on the Windows 10 upgrade for FSX. I hope there will be plenty of experimenters who will report problems and solutions, and analyze performance vs Windows 7.

Nice Pink Floyd reference David:) My understanding is that the free win10 being offered is not the full version of win10. I have that little windows symbol down on the bottom right hand side of my screen taunting me to just say yes.

Win10 is not as demanding on your PC as all previous OS and takes less HHD space.

FSX will run fine with win10, however my concern is that some add-ons from smaller developers or freeware may not. I don't know that in any certainty at all, but am worried that they may not work so well, FSrealWX etc.

Microsoft is no longer going to support win7 I believe by the end of this year, so you wont get updates etc.

When win10 rolls out in its full form I will run it on one of my computers and clone the drive from my FSX machine and run it on win10 to see what works and what doesn't and see how FSX and all my add-ons run on a win10 rig.

I will more than likely keep win7 on my FSX rig until my hardware upgrades for my 737 cockpit once its ready for the new rigs to be installed.

Windows 7 will be supported through to January 2020, and Windows 8.1 through to January 2023.

And the free upgrade is for a full version of Windows 10. Microsoft has a good FAQ on their site about the upgrade, including which edition you are eligible for.

I will upgrade within the first year. When my system is ready to handle DX12. I have a lot more applications installed besides FSX and P3D so I am in no hurry for the upgrade. I just had a one-on-one training session with a Microsoft Area Manager and he went Windows 10 "technical release".

It's very nice and I will upgrade my Win7 computers but after the dust settles. No need to upgrade on day 1 for me.

I think I'm going to do the same as Johnny, why stir the pot when it's cooking just fine...

Thanks David, glad I could offer someone some good advice on something. I just finally set my computer up properly this week after rewriting Windows drive again. No more FS rewrites again - put FS on a separate drive and all it's add-ons together on one disc, so now I have no more worries about having to re-download everything again.

But with the Windows thing, yeah, stick with what works, and change nothing if it's fine man. Less heartaches and headaches that way too playing it safe.

There's an interesting thread called "My issue with Windows 10 upgrade" you all might want to look at.

The issue Vic has is once you install Windows 10 whether you/we will be required to accept all their "updates" or not. Or more specifically, is MS trying to emulate Apple and force things down our throat without permission.

In addition to all the normal new software bugs, including the fact that FSX was probably never on the minds of the people who wrote 10. We now must also consider that according to MS, all updates to Windows 10 will be mandatory and carried out without our permission.

Assuming their intent is as they state it, outsider control, is not what I will inflict on equipment I built with very expensive parts. So, yes I'll wait quite some time to allow the corporate control issue and bug dust to settle before I install yet another operating system.

I also normally never buy a first year of any automobile offered. I let others get stared at with their new ride. And I also let others get their new ride recalled and debugged before I buy the corrected one of the same model. Nor do a want a Tesla, ever!

Being an old chopper guy I usually fly low and slow.

Hi! I do not know about DX12+FSX, but, anyway FSX wasn't created for DX12! I tried to launch FSX on many releases of WIN10 (on a last one to), but no good results. In standart FSX configuration (I mean DX9) on a WIN10 I get this black stuff instead plane preview window

1.jpg

and ANY antialiasing doesn't work (both Nvidia inspector and FSX own tweaks). So at my PC with WIN 10 my FSX DOESN'T work with DX9 preview. BUT it works fine in a DX10 preview turned ON in FSX. I do not like DX10 in FSX so I'm now frustrated. Will wait for final release. May be this issue will be fixed.

PS. On a screenshot is WIN7 and FSX window from WIN10 that I used few days ago)))

Why fly? Simple. I'm not happy unless there's some room between me and the ground.

Exactly my point. They're not actually forcing people to upgrade to Windows 10, are they? I really don't want it......

  • 3 weeks later...
I just had my first chance to do the upgrade. It was really uneventful. The download and install are automatic if you choose the express installation. I only had to change my NVidia Inspector settings. I only tried FSX: Steam and I flew the A2A C182 over the Tennessee Valley. It ran really smooth with great graphics. I like flying in this area in fall with the leaves in full color. Beautiful. I'm out of time now, the honey do list is calling. I'll try other variables later, but so far so good.

Not wishing ti weigh in on the debate, just a quick question. Installed windows 10, works great with no glitches yet. If i do a factory reinstall, will it go back to Windows 8.1 or will it reinstall windows 10?
