Thread: Looking for an airspeed gauge - with both MPH & KTS - for the FS9 Cessna 172.

Default Looking for an airspeed gauge - with both MPH & KTS - for the FS9 Cessna 172.

    Hi there!

I am looking to see where I can get a airspeed gauge for the default FS9 Cessna 172, that has both KTS and MPH readings on the face. So far I have not been able to find one.

I recently downloaded the Fravin Cessna C150L, but they don't have a 2D panel. So I am using the FS9 Cessna 172 2D panel. It "technically" works, but I would like to find a gauge that has at least a MPH ring on it that would fit the 2D panel of the 172. I have tried other Cessna 150 2D panels, but the 2D panel screen shows the whole panel, and the gauges are somewhat difficult to read. So this is why I am trying to use the 172 panel as a "fix" to that issue.

Note to all...I am very "green" to panel manipulation. All I have done so far, successfully, was to swap clocks in the 172, from digital to an analog and move gauges around the panel.

If there is no such gauge available, I wonder if there is a way to change a .cfg somewhere where the Airspeed indicator will depict airspeed in MPH, rather than KTS?

    Thanks!

    Hello!

Are you looking for an Airspeed Indicator (ASI) that looks exactly like the C-172 ASI, but reversed so it shows MPH on the outside ring
and KTS on the inside? Or, does the 'style' matter?

It does not have to be an exact, but one that fits (size) of the ASI of the C-172. Preferably though, one exactly like the default C-172 but with MPH on outside.

just my curosity as to what reason to have a gauge read both KTS, and MPH. In the real world some of early C -172s did have ASIs reading in MPH, but Knots was most popular installation. Iive flown a Cessna 150 , ASI was in MPH. But never a gauge to switch one to the other. the only multi speed gauge was obtaining TAS, a feature on some ASIs,
A simple thing would be to use a calculator to convert the differnt speeds.

I have a Cessna 150L (1972) and the ASI is in MPH on the outside of the ring, small KTS ring on the inside. The POH is all in mph, so I am trying to get asclose to a realistic panel to my bird a possible.

If you could provide a picture of the actual gauge(*.jpg posted here), somebody could make it for you.

Ok. That would be great! Here is my best pick of the actual ASI from my bird.

The MPH scale and needle are simple enough, but it's not at all obvious how the KIAS (knots) scale is displayed. It appears as though there is a wedge-shaped window that rotates along with the needle allowing the knots scale to be seen with the small triangle pointer indicating where on the knots scale the needle is currently pointing...

In any event, without being able to physically see the knots scale, it would be extremely difficult to properly calibrate the artwork for the knots scale.

    statue mile = 5280 feet

    nautical mile = 6000 feet

    5280/6000= 0.88

    knots= MPH*0.88

The math is simple enough, but again without being able to SEE the knot scale, it would be difficult to create the artwork, quite aside from not knowing how the wedge shaped window (if that's what it is) works.
