Thread: FSX back to FS9?

    Default FSX back to FS9?

I started simming with FSX...I have generally good results. However, I've notice watching some videos of people that build home cockpits..alot use FS2004. Any thoughts people might have on moving to this platform would be appreciated. Also....can I have both on one machine? I don't see why not...and from what I've seen on the initial install...FS2004 does not look that good....what addons are a must to get better results. And of the frame rate/smoothness that much better that it's worth the trouble. Thanks for your ideas.

Ok, first at all, you can have both sims on your PC. No problem with that.
When it comes to fps, FS2004 rules. Its a lot better for old hardware. FSX may run slow even on todays top end PCs.
Must have addons for FS2004? First youllwant to check a very popular addon: REX. It REALLY makes a big difference. You should also consider some other addons which youll find around here.
    I hope that helps

This is actually a great topic for me because I just switched from fsx to fs9! I have to say, the experience in fs9 is so much better than fsx. I bought addons like ground environment pro and active sky and I actually feel as if I am a living, breathing, world at better performance than fsx. When I fly into chicago, it feels like I am landing in the real city, unlike fsx which would give me much lower fps. Even though the visuals may be a little worse, the atmosphere is much more real than fsx, making it more enjoyable and lifelike.

I agree with Agent00729! I switched back to FS9, and haven't regretted it at all. The look, feel and performance is much superior to FSX. Glad I only spent $30 on Amazon for it!!

If you're happy with fsx and fs9, have both!

With the many tweaks and addons (freeware and otherwise) fs9 can be brought to great heights of realism and versatility.

The list of aircraft available for fs9 is truly awesome.

    Multiple fs installations?
No problem - you can have fsx and fs9 installed on the same hardware.

You can even have multiple installs
(I am currently running 5 installations of fs9 on my fairly run-of-the-mill pc).

Each install is given a different name according to its use.
E.g. I have one installation devoted to sound development only.
One is for scenery projects, another is for vintage 'Golden Age' flying.

The other two? There are so many versions of trees, waves, clouds, etc., etc...I can't choose which ones I like best. Lol.
    So I don't!

I have all three FS2002, FS2004, & FSX all running on this machine.
I like the looks of FSX best, and it does have a few subtle improvements in the flight model. It uses a little of those other cores.
I like the effortless function of FS2004, it has great stability and memory management. Tons of aircraft can be made to work, Great selection! It is easy to get General Aviation traffic running in FS2004.
I like David Eckert's P-43A, and it was built for FS2000, so it will only fly in FS2002.
