Taking a planeload from Tekapo airport, up the Godley valley, landing at Franz Joseph.
What sadistic bugger would put two huge trees at the end of a runway like that? — Bob

Great shot Bob, NZSI sure looks good. They put two trees at the end of the runway to let you know if you were coming in to low.

    Thanks John. It sure does.
I'm not buying that explanation though.
I noticed the airport operator has a thriving airplane parts business

The field I took my lessons at had obstacles like that at one end. If the wind was favoring 14 (almost always) you had to almost drop the plane after clearing the trees. Only 1900 ft of gravel runway so it was important to get her down quickly but with love Not all made it! A doctor took the wing tips of a rented 150 making a dusk approach. Next day we went out to look at it, no idea how he didn't crack it up all the way, lucky man.

I think Peer and Dave planted those trees there, they also have a thriving airplane parts business as you well know. Super shots Bob.

Great shots once again Bob, Franz Joseph looks like a beautiful airstrip although I haven't been there myself for real.

    Nice shots as usual Bob!

Unfortunately those huge trees seem to be an ORBX problem. Also found them @ 3W5 Concrete...
