    Turning north is no good. Keith; you need to intersect the ILS at about 300 degrees, and 15 miles out from the threshold - altitude probably at 28 - 3000', anticipating the turn somewhat, so that you don't overshoot. You need to be "stable" at around 8 miles - 5 minimum i.e. Speed correct, nav & A/P system in approach mode, Localizer and G/S captured, landing flap set, gear down, autobrake set, spoilers armed, wings level, charts out and a go-round procedure ready.
