Default VISTA 64 Bit or Windows 7 64 Bit for FSX

    Hey folks,

Just done a big upgrade on my PC and need to decide whether to re-install Vista 64 Bit or go for Windows 7 64 Bit to get the best out of FSX.

    Here is my upgraded system:
    Intel Core 2 Quad 8200
    ATI Sapphire HD 3870
    2 x 2GB DDR2 800
    500GB WD 7200 Hard Drive
    600W PSU

    Would welcome opinion.

    Thank you

I have ZERO problems with Windows 7, 64-bit.
Just follow the installation recommendations from this forum and you'll be just fine.
Especially about installing to c:\fsx (or something similar).

Understand - but the point of the question is which is best for FSX.

I have Win 7 and it works great with FSX. As stated above, follow the install instructions.

As has been said, go with Windows 7 x64.

Agree, Windows 7 64 bit is best. FSX Gold Edition is completely compatible for 64 bit. Have not installed video card yet but running on the on-board video (1.5gb) and getting frame rate of 30+ and running FSX nearly "wide open." ASUS P868-V-LE board with Intel i5 2500K, homebuilt.

    Another vote for Win7...

Although I had little to no problems with Vista x64 (*unlike what seems to be the rest of the computing world), the improvements in the UI as well as other underpinnings of Windows 7 are well worth the upgrade/change. Although not quantifiable or measurable, FSX just "felt" a bit better under W7 vs. Vista.

Vista is garbage, Win 7 64 all the way

I totally agree with that statement. Vista has to have been one of the worst screw ups that ever came from a bunch of "brainiacs". It ran flightsim OK most of the time but other things like MSTS, ShipSim and to a lesser extent FSX, I had to constantly force it to shut down because it would freeze up and task manager would not come up. As a matter of fact garbage is an understatement.
