Default ‘Overhead panel’ and starting up aircraft from the ‘cold and dark’ cockpit.

I am keen to learn more about the ‘overhead panel’ and start the aircraft from a cold and dark cockpit. Simply Ctrl +E won’t do for me. I had watched some videos how an overhead panel scan is done and how the aircrafts are started.

I have some problems in understanding the meaning of APU and ‘air bleed’. Can anyone explain me in simple terms and also direct me to a good tutorials on the subject of power supply to the aircrafts – (I already know battery source, APU source, and external power source).

Thanks for your replies in advance.

    Regards

    Shri
