Thread: Gauge bitmap size

    Default Gauge bitmap size

Is it better to start with a much larger size lets say 200 X 200 to make it easier to design or if the gauge size on the panel will be 50 X 50 start with something about that size?

Myself, I would say start with something as close as possible to what you want to end up with. You never know how things are going to look after you've resized the gauge down to 1/4 of the original.
Spent way too much time using these sims...

Always create the gauge larger than it will actually appear on the panel. A 200 pix gauge scaled to 50 pix on the panel will be much clearer than one created at 50 pix.

    Yes.

    Why?
    a) Well, you can easily place text and other details on an
image 256x256, but not on 50x50.

    b) You may think it should be 50x50 on a panel, but what
if your user wants 60x60 or 40x40? Sometimes they may
want to open a window with a larger version, for example.

    c) The artwork is larger for manuals, etc.

You may also want to consider that powers of two are likely the best choice to make the filtering the panel must do to reduce it efficient and likely to result in the best visual appearance.

You could use your editing software to reduce it instead, but given that it may be used at a variety of resolutions and screen sizes IMHO it is best to let the panel system do it.
