reminds of a story i read once.

during WWII one test pilot was incharge of developing the panel layout for F7F(sorry I forgot the Pilots Name). After the project was finished and WWII was over, he retained his position at Grumman. Arround the same time, he was assigned to a Goose that had its propellors upgrade from wood fixed-pitch props to metal variable pitch props. To have the upgrade certified by the FAA(?) or CAA(?) as a production ready, a test pilot from the FAA had to fly the aircraft. during the flight the grumman test pilot did a couple of tought and goes on land and water.

Finally the FAA pilot asked if he coud do one water landing. The Yoke fore the goose is actually on a swing arm that swings straight up and over to the other side. So, the grumman pilot gives the FAA pilot the yoke. The FAA pilot follows the check list except for the landing speed. the grumman pilot informed the FAA Pilot that they were 20 knots over the maximum safe landing speed, but the FAA Pilot ignores him and keeps his approach. at the last few seconds, the Grumman test pilto grabs the swign mount of the yoke and pulls the mount back as hard as he can.

After he gets the yoke back from the FAA pilot, he asks the FAA Pilot what he was thinking. The FAA Pilot Replies, "I heard the she'll Flip if you land her on the water at 90 knots."

Obviously, the FAA pilot didn't realise that they would have died.
