  1. Hi, Just a quick question, has anyone else experienced any difficulty contacting the Australian company IRIS Simulations? I purchased the GROB Tutor T1 from them a couple of weeks ago and am struggling with it (mainly loading) into MSFS. I've sent three e-mails ( help@irissimulations.com.au) to them but haven't received any acknowledgements. It is the only addon I have within the sim that manages a CTD on a regular basis! Thanks, Tony
  2. Hi leegra and bam1220 and other simmers. Sadly, I do not have a magic bullet for you regarding your persistent downloading problems but would just like to share my own frustrations with you and, perhaps, point you towards some kind of fix, albeit one that will probably be scoffed at by the community at large! MSFS is truly a complicated piece of software and, in my opinion, should not have been launched twelve months ago whilst still full of bugs. But, what am I saying, twelve months and several upgrades later, it is still full of bugs! It took me three weeks after the launch of the sim, last year, to actually load it. I specced a new PC just for this program, and not a cheap one either, just to get back into flight sim - a program that I've had on my PCs since the mid 80's. Eventually, like one of you, I had to speak with MS directly and get them to do a remote connect in the hope that they would fix the installation issue for me. They were on for a couple of hours and I realised finally that they didn't know anymore about the problem than I did. I felt as though they'd 'raped' my machine. I think they left me re-installing Windows 10 and assured me that would fix my problem - it didn't! I went on for another week, trying everything for a fix. In the end I asked the MS Store for a refund and was promptly answered and refunded - full marks to MS for that - the only action in this entire episode that has gone without a hitch! I then purchased from the XBOX store a Game Pass and, unbelievably, was able to download FS2020. Everyone one else has been playing this sim for a month but, no matter, I've got it and am now in the 'big boys' league. That's until World Update 1 makes it's arrival. Guess what - I get some kind of meaningless 'hex' error telling me that I've got a failure downloading the upgrade. Panic sets in - what do I do? Am spending hours and hours reading all of the trusted flight sim sites looking for an answer and, in all honesty, am trying all sorts of 'stupid' fixes that people are spouting on about. Eventually, it's bite the bullet time - I can't get over my failure to load the updated sim and so I decide to re-install Windows. This is a big decision for me because although I have had a PC from the very first PCs, I know nothing about re-installing the operating system. I do it and it works. However, it is a proper pain in the arse to then have to reload all of the programs and applications, shortcuts and Windows views etc. that you have come to know and love, BUT, I've got MSFS back! World Update 2 - exactly the same - failure - different hex code - all bullshit! Panic sets in again but Hey! I have a bit of experience now. Every upgrade and hotfix errors in some way and every time I re-install Windows 10. Won't pretend that my heart is not in my mouth every time I go through this but it works and at least I'm up still up there, flying with the rest of them. I've created a folder that contains links to all of my 'Windows' applications, shortcuts etc, etc, which reminds me what I should do each time I do a complete re-install of Windows. As soon as I re-install, I open my folder and go through each item within that folder and set up my machine to look exactly like it did before. Yes, it's a pain - but it's quicker than spending hours and hours searching for MSFS answers that don't really work. Re-installing Windows takes me about 45 mins, loading all of my previous programs, etc, takes another hour. Should I have to do this on a regular basis - Definitely not - BUT it works! To be able to log into the MS Store or XBOX store and receive your new download is most gratifying. That has been the story of my MSFS experience to date. When I'm up and running, the sim is most enjoyable. I only fly in the UK, so only download UK scenery and interests. Have the C152 modded, fantastic aircraft, along with the c152 STOL. Have the PA28 iii and PA28 ii, both brilliant aircraft. I think it will be a long time before this sim is fixed and most of us can relax. In the meantime, my heart goes out to all of those people who struggle update upon update to get some sort of resolution. Best wishes to you all. Tony
  3. What an absolutely first class, well made video. Well done to you and thanks for sharing.
  4. Apologies to all those who may have seen this post on other Forums. I am running MSFS vers. 1.15.10.0. After update 1.15.8.0 I have been unable to access my Options > General settings. Everytime I try, the screen mists over and I am returned to my Desktop. When I check Event Viewer I always receive the same error message :- Description: Faulting application name: FlightSimulator.exe, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x6087d3ea Faulting module name: ucrtbase.dll, version: 10.0.19041.789, time stamp: 0x2bd748bf Exception code: 0xc0000409 Fault offset: 0x000000000007286e Faulting process ID: 0x2640 Faulting application start time: 0x01d744e89bb3247c Faulting application path: C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_1.15.10.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe\FlightSimulator.exe Faulting module path: C:\WINDOWS\System32\ucrtbase.dll Report ID: 117928aa-093e-4d9b-845d-c4e873687db1 Faulting package full name: Microsoft.FlightSimulator_1.15.10.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe Faulting package-relative application ID: App I have been told by some that this CTD is caused by not having the ENGLISH (United States) Language pack installed. Not only is it installed but so have been ALL of the Speech/Region/Date and Time formats without any success whatsoever. The Flight Sim is still flyable even though I cannot change any of the parameters stored within OPTIONS > General. I appear to be running with those settings that were in place before this fault developed. How long that will last is anyone's guess. MSFS has been fully reinstalled - no change. Windows has been reset and MSFS reinstalled - no change. Windows has been fully wiped and MSFS reinstalled - no change. Any ideas please?
  5. Hi Andrew and many thanks for your response. I'm not sure I follow you, as far as I can see, all updates come from the MS Store? I was running vers 1-15-7-0, then a few days ago when I launched flight sim, the program got to 'checking for updates' and then presented me with a 'Mandatory update required - download before launching the sim' - or words to that effect. At this point, you have no option but to click on the OK box and follow whatever paths MS wants to take. It took me to a download dialogue at the MS Store, but then errored when I attempted to download it. I put up with the constant error message for a day or two, (giving the MS Store program a chance to correct itself) but sadly it did not. I then uninstalled and reinstalled the full 164+ GB download. All looked well until I tried to open GENERAL > Options and received the CTD. As I said in my earlier post, I have now reinstalled Windows 10 and reinstalled FS2020 but am still getting the CTD when I point to GENERAL > Options. I may be naive but I honestly believe this to be a problem with vers 1-15-8-0 :(
  6. Hi, going on from a thread of a couple of days ago in which I wished someone well trying to install latest version 1-15-8-0, a version which I had been forced to download (or try to) after launching my sim (1-15-7-0) on Saturday 17th and which failed with a hex code message from the MS Store. Repeatedly, logging out, logging in, re-booting. et al. In that message, I predicted that the only way out (for me) would be to re-install windows and then re-download Fs2020. It turned out to be a true prediction. The only thing I did not foresee was that with my new Windows 10, displaying my new FS2020, sitting at the main screen, I chose to go into Options > General in order to make a start of configuring the sim. Wrong. Trying to enter Options > General brings about a crash to Desktop! Reloaded the sim - even did a short circuit around Land's End (even though I have an empty Community folder). Feeling bold now, I attempted once again to enter Options > General but was again returned to the Desktop. Reloaded the sim several times, checked out My Hangar, My Logbook, the Marketplace, Options > Controls and all were working fine. However, trying to enter General always returns me to my Desktop. Today I have uninstalled Flight Sim and gone through yet another 164.61 GB download and, with heart pounding, launched the sim - only to get exactly the same results as previously. What is it about Options > General that my system does now not like? Any ideas, anyone?
  7. Hopefully you will get it from the MS Store! My flight sim went into 'checking for updates' yesterday and I was told that I needed a mandatory update before launching the program - already have 1-15-7-0 - clicked ok and got transported to the MS Store - download started and then failed with a Code: 0x8007001F almost immediately. Tried many times since but has been like that for the last 24 hours. Once again, a superb rollout by MS !! Looks like I will be doing yet another full re-install
  8. Hi, I'm trying to load up the SDK but not having any success. From within FS2020 I have enabled Developer Mode, clicked on Download and have a .msi file of over 1GB in my Downloads folder. When I open this file I get asked to tick the T&Cs box, get shown a menu box of what components will be installed and then when I click on Install, I keep on getting a pop-up telling me that an installation is already underway and that it needs to complete that one before running another one?? Have to say that when I initially click 'open' on the file MSFS_SDK_Installer_0.6.1.0.msi, it does look as though there is a double action taking place as the 'Welcome to the Microsoft Flight Simulator SDK 0.6.1.0 Setup Wizard' appears. But it happens very quickly indeed and so I might be imagining this double action. Any thoughts on this, please? Tony
  9. I posted last week to say that I cannot even start the download process and have worked tirelessly on the problem ever since BUT - still no go! Whether or not I purchase from the MS Store or try the XBOX Game Pass, after asking which drive to install to, the app says 'Preparing' then fails within 5 seconds. Sometimes giving the wonderfully informative error code - 0x00000001. Am I really the only person on this web site that this has happened to?? I'd even be over the moon if it went into a download that lasted 24 hours! At least I would be moving forwards!! Please someone, help me out. Thanks, Tony
  10. Just to keep this post updated in case it may be of help to others. Loki, tried your two links. DISM didn't flag anything but SFC made two or three corrections. Thanks for that. Today I have retried to install using the XBOX Game Pass but with no success. Out of curiosity, I attempted to install another game from the XBOX site - nothing I wanted but just to see if I'd get the same failure as FS. Lo and behold, the unwanted game started to install immediately. I cancelled it and tried another one - same again, started to install imediately. Next tried to install 'Game Of Thrones' but it failed like FS. Curiosity has now gripped me! Some games are loading whilst others will not. Looking at the detailed information for each game, I notice that for every game that started to download, the requirements are quite simple, ie, they only require access to the Internet. For every game that fails to download, their requirements are a bit more complicated, ie, They require :- Access to all of your files and peripheral devices, apps, programs and Registry. They Write Registry entries and Files that are not cleaned up on uninstall. And, they Install additional software. As a result of the above, I rather think that something is set on my computer that is causing the download failure of FS 2020 (and Game of Thrones, etc) but, having spent hours going through my Windows 10 settings, I cannot spot an obvious candidate. Any ideas would be most welcome. Regards.
  11. Many thanks for your response loki and I will certainly check those two links out.
  12. Hi Guys, I'm really pleased that so many of you out there are able to run, for better or worse, MSFS. I logged into the MS Store on Saturday and paid for MSFS Standard Edition - the transaction went through in a flash, the page changed and I was seeing a screen that told me that I owned the sim, with a blue box to the right saying 'Install/Play'. I clicked on this box and another screen opened asking where I wanted to install the sim. I clicked on drive C, whereupon the original screen opened again telling me that I owned the sim and inviting me to 'Install/Play'. I went through this routine many times but obviously was getting nowhere. I restarted my PC, logged back into my MS account and the MSFS Standard Edition page, still to be told that I owned the sim, etc. This time I told it to install to my D: drive. Same as before, just kept on looping around. After about three hours of this I contacted MS Support and received a call from them within the hour. The guy took over my PC and performed all manner of tests. He was logged in for about 30 mins before I lost the connection. In fairness he did call back and then spent another 40 mins trying all sorts of stuff - (which I have to say felt a little worrying). As a last resort, he downloaded the very latest Win 10 build and just told me to try again when my machine eventually comes back to life. I did and, needless to say, the end result was exactly the same! I've asked MS for a refund and have been told that is on its way to my bank account. If you're still with me, thanks. I will try and make the rest of this as short as possible. Having explained all of this to my son, he has gone through the installation on his PC by using an XBOX Pass and it seemed to be downloading fine. So, I've tried to recreate his actions, have signed up for an XBOX pass and once again attempted the download - NOTHING! Back to original looping round of screens. Can anyone shed some light on this abject failure please? BTW, have just spent an arm and a leg on my new PC - just to run this new Flight Sim! :-( Best wishes to all simmers.
