  1. Lol, I am the Opposite, I get the storms while there are clear skies all over my state (I yes Neil, I do know how to set up the weather properly)
  2. The Version you had of Working title G3000 was VERY old! It is up to version 0.421 which was released 3 days ago. You can keep your version up to date here: https://github.com/Working-Title-MSFS-Mods/fspackages/releases If you Sim is still working, good for you. Had to uninstall mine completely cause this last MSFS patch made it unusable.
  3. Within a handful of hours there were "thousands" of negative posts on the MS support page and other places, so you can consider yourself lucky that it worked for you. I have the Steam version of MSFS and the update crashed several times and upon the next few tries, it automatically started a whole new install in a different drive, not the one I had it set on Steam! Ended up with a double installation, 160 gigs of data in two different drives and a total crash. I have a U$S 7,000 rig, not including all my FS gear. I have just 3 games installed thru Steam. I am a super computer geek, been building them since early 1980's, doing mother board tracings (in the old days to squeeze as much power as possible) and keep my PC updated and super extra clean. If this crap happened to me, I can assure you that there is a problem with MSFS. You have 3 versions of MSFS, the disk version, the MS Store version and the Steam version and and everyone had different experiences. Even with a one Gig fiber connection, it hurts when you watch 160 gigs, downloading at less than 100....
  4. I have MSFS installed through Steam into a non default drive (Drive D) including my community folder. After installing the patch last night, I started the Sim and I could see the FPS dropping from 30 to 9 quickly before my screen went back to desktop. After about 5 tries I started the Sim again and to my surprise, it was another update..well not really. The ASOBO update did not respect the installation path as listed in my Steam App, so instead of installing the update on drive D: it began doing a FULL INSTALL into default drive C: I ended up with TWO installations of MSFS . My community folder (empty except for landscapes purchased thru ORBX) and 150 GIG + of MSFS install files were still in drive D: As a result the SIM was crashing badly. To solve this, I got on the Steam app, went to MSFS properties and selected to move my installation drive to drive C:. After that, I had to redownload all my purchased MODS from ORBX, re-install my driver for the Honeycomb quadrant (for the lights to work) and the logitech driver for my Radio console. I am back in business and it works fine again. Hitting 62 FPS at altitude on a 3440 x 1440 and about 42-45 a low flying levels, all in Ultra settings. I did move my Community folder back to drive D. I can not believe how something so elemental, like the installation path of a patch can get so screwed up...... I hope this helps someone....
  5. I remember people telling me that 32 GB of RAM was an overkill, but I got 64 instead....then MSFS came out recommending 32 GB. If you can afford it, go for it, make yourself future proof, it will save you $$$ in the long run. I am using a Corsair HX1000 watts. and I have a STRIX RTX 3090 OC, i9-9900 all cores at 5 GHZ, liquid cooling among other things and my Power Supply is working fine. The Strix RTX 3090 recommends an 850 Watts PS. Like I said, make your PC future proof, at least for a good 3 years. Get the 1300 watts if you can afford it.
  6. I also have a 500GB NVMe for Main and a 2 TB NVMe for Games & MSFS and I also added two 1 TB SSDs (internal). All my STEAM/UBISOFT files (games and such) go to the 2TB NVMe, including MSFS and the Community folder. Every other app gets installed in one of the two 1 TB SSD. My second 1 TB SSD is my OneDrive Encrypted storage using BIT LOCKER. My main drive still have tons of space available.
  7. @mjnico: I think on the Devs download page it says this mod is not compatible with liveries. Select the default skin if that is the case.
  8. KSAT Intl is buggy (MSFS 2020) The Marshall made me crash into a wall, which was actually the ground that was elevated so much that looked like a wall. It happened twice at that airport (did not crash into it the 2nd time 8)). Give it a try, fly from KAUS to KSAT RNAV(RNV) Z RWY 4 approach. Request parking and you will find the Marshall standing on top of the "wall." I Noticed the same problem while flying in other parts of Texas, where the ground looked like it suffered a massive earthquake where you can see the fault and one side much higher than the other.
  9. I think the Marshall does not like me. :p The first time it caused me to crash my Baron G58. I replicated this on a second trip from Austin Intl (KAUS). Are there more airports like this?
  10. Hi Chopper.. I am just curious...do you have the Honeycomb Yoke? The reason I ask is because some users in other forums claim that the Honeycomb Yoke had a design flaw in its switches that cause an error on the "heading" and they even have a commercial application that "corrects it." I have the Honeycomb Alpha Yoke and never had the issue they talked about. Some users also claimed it affects FLC. All of these when using the G1000 only. I tried to replicate the issue without success, which is good. Like I said, I am just curious cause I believe is a MSFS software issue... Gil
  11. I have and use Steam for most of my software purchases. I bought flight simulator Premium through Steam and everything downloaded perfectly in my computer. At the same time, a lot of people who purchased the Sim directly from Microsoft, were complaining that they did not receive the packages they paid for, that planes were missing and other things. I did not experience that, but it could be that the problem was fixed by the time I downloaded it. Since then, , I moved most of the installation folders, the big ones, to another drive using the move commands within the Steam app.. I have used apps that interface with Simconnect without a single problem. Other than FS, which is downloaded directly from Microsoft, all my other Steam purchases download at a rate of 900-940 Mbps, which pretty much is the cap for a 1 gig fiber. When you purchase software through them, it checks your location and connects you to their closest server, which speeds up things tremendously as you can see on my numbers. I haven't tried starting my games without connecting to the internet, but it does loads the Steam app before it loads any software bought through them because it checks for your Digital Rights to the software. I believe, that it will run the apps if you are not connected to the internet because other Companies, like Origin, for example, do that; if you don't have an active internet connection, it asks you for your Origin password and you are in. One last thing. Steam has a return policy that is awesome. More than once I bought games that were buggy as hell or just not what I expected, and right there on the app it gives you the option to request a refund. It only takes a few minutes to get your credit. Of course, the catch is that you have a reasonable amount of time before you can apply for a refund. When MSFS was released and because it took so little time to download the installer and then forever to download the full simulation, people ran out of time to claim a refund. After customers brought the issue to Steam, they made the proper adjustment to their software and people were refunded their money. Great company.
  12. His PC can take u up to an i7-6700 3.4 GHZ than can hit boosts speed of up to 4 GHZ. Its 4 cores, and like most intel's, cannot boosts all cores at the same time (unless unlocked and OC or an i9+ right out of the box). There was a very thorough article on this site about MSFS and its hardware demands, in particular the CPU. I learned something from it too, because I though that my all cores @5 GHZ was more than what I needed to run it at max, well that was until the author replied to me and made me realized that I was looking at the wrong numbers. My benchmarking app showed that FS was using 99% of my CPU Power, not all CPU cores, but the ones used by the sim. He can really end up losing money, lots of it by buying upgrades. Everyone's financial situation is different, I am aware of that. MSFS is a monster and it requires a monster PC if you want to take advantage of the beautiful scenery, which is the main reason most people bought this game to begin with. I hate to see people wasting money. Sometimes is best to wait a little, especially now. Like you said, because of COVID and so many people staying/working from home, it has created an increase in the demand for computer hardware. Plus, you can't go on vacation, can't go to restaurants, movies, etc, think of all the money you are saving, money that many folks are using to buy PC gear. I bet you that no many people have a wife who tell their husbands to get the good stuff. Mine does because she knows me better, that I end up upgrading sooner than later, wasting our money. I have a PC with VERY strong specs and still can't get past the 30 fps most of the time. Sometimes it drops below 20 FPS. I would hate to see Biff spending more money and not being happy with the results.
  13. There is nothing wrong with overclocking the CPU if you know what you are doing. Even CPU manufactures know that. That is why many of the newer processor are "unlocked" so they can be overclocked. It's advertised on their packaging. An example. the CPU I have, an Intel i9-9900K (k = unlocked) If you have a good motherboard, a good CPU, because not all of them are built equally, we call it the silicon lottery, liquid cooling, and the most important thing of all, a good stress test software (I use AIDA64 , commercial software) there is no reason why not doing it. I could OC a PC run simulator for hours without problems, but as soon as I start AIDA64 stress test, within two seconds my PC would freeze. That shows you running games or video loops is not a stress test. While a 20% increase in clock speed may not make much of a difference on some video games, because remember, most games, including FS don't use all the cores of the CPU (not yet), but when using software that do, like when I encode 4k videos, having all my 8 cores/16 logical cores running at 5,003.1 MHZ instead of 3,600 MHZ makes a huge difference. Just wait until MS releases a patch that will enable all cores in MSFS (Direct X 12) and you will see what I mean. My CPU while running FS2020 hits a MAX of 72-76C deg. While it sounds like a lot, for an i9-9900k it is perfect!. While I type this, the temperature is 47C deg on one core, less on the others. And like I wrote on the other reply, I don't mess with the RAM. Gil
  14. You are right. I've overclocked all my systems, when possible, for years. But one thing I never overclock is the RAM. It's very, very tricky, and if you are using four sticks instead of two, chances are they will not be able to take the extra clocks/voltage. Besides that, there is very well documented studies that shows overclocking your ram will not give any significant advantages on your FPS. If your Mother Board have XMP option in the BIOS, turn it on, that's all you have to do. Gil
  15. Hi Biff. I am not going to be specific on what you need, there are a lot of real good suggestions already, but I will tell you this, buy the most powerful computer you can afford because in the long run, it will save you money. It will take longer to have the need to upgrade your components. I bought my RTX 2070 a year and half ago for my new rig and now I am looking into upgrading again. I wouldn't have that problem if I had bought the 2080ti or even the 2080. I don't play in 4K, I prefer my Wide Screen monitor. People were also telling me that there was no need for more than 16 gigs of RAM, and that was true "at the time" but now we know that MSFS recommends 32 Gigs. I am good, I got 64 Gigs of RAM . They told me I was wasting my money because I bought a Corsair 1000 Watts Power Supply, that I didn't need that kind of power if I wasn't going the SLI route (2 video cards simultaneously) . Glad I did because now we know how power hungry these new Nvidia 30 series are. If you can, don't buy or built a PC with specifications that are good for todays games/applications, buy one that will be good for the next three years or more. Gil
