  1. Yes, you can, instead of "Throttle Axis, Bind Physical 01, bind to Throttle Axis 01 same for Physical Throttle 02 to throttle axis 02. That will allow two engine planes. But for 4 engines you will need to do my above suggestion. Have fun.
  2. All - I did try to install XP-11 to C:/Windows/Programs and I got warning it does not like that location as errors occur. So, I took the default "desktop" I don't like that either. I could put it on a removeable drive, but not sure I like that any better. For now, default, but thinking I could put is someplace else.
  3. Follow instructions on Virpil website or Watch “Havoc Company Clan” on YouTube to see lots of videos on setting up this device. But this is mostly what they say. However here is the link: NOTE: If you have previously done the step below, no need to keep reloading firmware UNLESS, your device was setup with an older software version. YOU KNOW THIS by looking at the DEVICE in Virpil Software on the top left window, your device is shown and the last segment in parentheses is the software/firmware version it was configured under. Latest release is (2021012) If the software version has changed to a newer revision, the FRIMWARE needs to be updated, and your settings reloaded, i.e., in this order. You could actually import a saved profile, but newer revisions might improve axis control or something, so just reconfigure it, then do step 5. The device stores it settings within itself, not in windows. 1. Update Firmware 2. Update Profile – SAVE PROFILE TO DEVICE. Check BOX in middle bottom windows “MAP KEYS 33…128 to Keyboard. What? this allows some buttons to work in FSX even if those buttons are outside of the 32 max FSX see physically. 3. Update/calibrate axis on device – SAVE VPC DEVICE 4. Buttons and LED’s is a personal choice – SAVE VPC DEVICE. 5. Once you are done, backup the profile to a safe place then if you mess it up, you have a backup of a known good profile to put into device. I suspect, as software versions evolve, the appearance of the VPC window will look different. You might just move around in it to become familiar with all and what does which without actually reconfiguring anything. Click on the profile button and see all the stuff in that screen same for all the rest. The 5-way modifier is also a personal choice. I have mine enabled, I changed LED colors on each of the 5 levels that switch works. You do this under the Profile section of the software. I may in the future want those 30 buttons/switches to do something (autopilot stuff). An excellent video series on seeing how this is done is on YouTube “Jon’s Gaming and Tech”. Check his playlists and watch all the Virpil stuff that pertains to CM-2 or CM-3 throttle. Here is the link: VIRPIL VIDEOS - YouTube Configuring CM-3 under FSX – All my FSX plane flights start at the “Cold and Dark” condition. Why, the best way to learn controls on any plane is to go through startup situation, then you know where all the important things are located. Thay is why I have set my throttle device up as below. You can change any of the button/switch options I have listed. Now you only have two physical throttle levers, but some planes have 4 engines. In the Settings/Controls section of FSX. Three tabs across the top. 1. For 4 engine control, Choose Control Axis Tab – Scroll down to “Throttle Axis” bind one lever to that choice, and then using device, keep them locked together. All 4 engines will work. 2. Using the same Control Axis Tab, bind the Flaps to lever on CM-3 device. 3. Using same Control Axis tab, using the “slider on physical Throttle 2, and bind spoilers to it. And I can find a button to click to “Arm Spoilers” have not done that. Remember above, step 2, we checked box on Mapping Keys? This is where that comes into play. If FSX cannot see a physical button, it will see that button as a keyboard press (letter in most cases). So here is how I assign things I want to work as close as possible to a real plane. Normally in Commercial Jet, and almost any 4-engine military jet, the Parking brake is to the left of the throttles. On this device, that close choice for me is: 4. On CM-3 switch T3, I bind it to the parking brake by pushing it forward. This assigns a letter to that function. Now I realize I do not release PB until ready for pushback, but it’s near its real location in plane. NOTE: move T3 to rear otherwise, windows assume key press repeat. 5. On the Center Tab “Buttons/Keys” I bind T5-Forward to the “Master Battery (on/off) It assigns a Capitol Letter “L” to that function. Moving switch T5 backwards, it will turn battery OFF. 6. Same place – Switch T6 is bound to “Avionics Master on/off with letter “N”. 7. Same Place – Switch T7 is bound to “Landing Gear extend/retract with letter “P” – NOTE: P in game is pause, find pause in this section change keyboard assignment to Ctrl + P. On CM-3 – Throttle 02 – are multiple buttons, hat switches, so I just waited until I felt comfortable with it, before I assigned other stuff. You can figure out which ones you like for those things. However, you will set them in the Center Tab buttons/keys section. My assignments are listed below. For me Elevator trim down is button 26 (windows sees this button because its lower than 32), and button 24 for Elevator Trim Up. For reverse thrust, I used button 32, with repeat all the way to max. This actually will engage RT, provided throttles are at idle, and you hold it down until you reach slow enough speed. I bound a couple more to take me outside plane and bring me back inside quick, just play around with them. For me, setting up auto pilot functions is easier with the mouse and mouse wheel, so I did not assign any buttons to those actions. I mostly fly Virtavia’s C-17 Globemaster III military cargo plane, so assigning radio/navigation and all the rest is for me was easier that way. Hope this helps. Rember, you can brick any Virpil device if more than one is connected to PC at same time, while using the Virpil software to config them, only do one at a time, with it plugged directly into PC USB port.
  4. I got e-mail back from Virpil. SIMPLE, don't need FUSPIC or anything else. In the Virpil software Profile box, in the bottom middle, you check Keyboard Map keys 33-128. Doing that will allow you to configure buttons and switches to work in FSX. I have now setup my CM-3 Throttle device and will create a thread explaining exactly what to do. NOW, all the young whiz kids can then lambaste me over it, but on my Gaming Laptop, it works perfectly, without having one extra piece of software needed. Look for my post.
  5. Steam is another layer in the train. Just try to find and run the KB I mentioned in the narrative. That should get you going.
  6. Thank you I will investigate all of this tomorrow.
  7. All - If you have to reinstall the DISC version of FSX, you will need to load the installer patch. Installer patch must be run from command prompt. Here is what to do: Find and download KB-928080 from Microsoft's site, it still should be out there. I have it saved to DVD. a. Run mskb928080 from the desktop, it will upzip and create a folder called "C:\MicrosoftKB928080", open a command prompt as an admin move to that folder C:\MicrosoftKB929090. b. Then Run "resetsldl.exe_/all" and it will clean up the installer files and the MS Store files. This should fix MS FSX, so it installs correctly. NOTE: Install FSX then Activate the program. The activation code is in the box. If hijacked copy, someone should have provided an Activation Code. I will not provide mine. Assuming you get to this point. More to do, read below carefully. If you are installing the Acceleration Pack, after activation of the Base FSX install, install that now, do not restart, it apparently has SP-1 and what SP-2 is needed for it to work fine. If NOT installing Acceleration Pack, then follow below. Then install SP-1 and then SP-2. At end of that restart PC, and find folder with FSX in it, and create shortcut to desktop for it. There are supposed to be activation on the Acceleration Pack, it did not run but planes are there. Do this to make the activation work: Originally Posted by brianstabinger View Post Okay. After you find the folder, double-click Upperfilters on the right side. 4. Change the value from 0 to PartMgr* and/or remove any other settings and then click OK. 5. Close Registry Editor 6. Start FSX/Accel and you should get the registration wizard. The next time you launch FSX, you'll have the prompt to enter the ACCELERATION product key. Closed/Opened a few times, and all seems well. I did this and the value was partmgr. Either in this thread or another I found, someone commented to make sure the capital letters were in place. Sure enough, when I replaced partmgr with *PartMgr, I was prompted to activate now or later when I restarted FSX. Happy Flying
  8. https://flyhoneycomb.com/pages/drivers - That is your link, in small print under the MSFS 2020 driver is the FSX drivers. I was able to download them, you should be able to as well. After installation, restart FSX and do below. You then have to go into controls settings and tweak some of them to get them to work. I took my Bravo unit off my PC, got something more compact, and it does not work at all in FSX. But I am going to press ahead, because the quality of what I got, versus HC-BTQ is better.
  9. All - While ago used Logitech 3D pro Joystick. It was replaced by Virpil FSX with Mongoose T-50 base, and in FSX - Accl pack, works fine. Also have Honeycomb Bravo unit, and it worked fine, but was way too big for my desk space. So, got Virpil VPC Mongoose T-50 CM3 Throttle unit. And the issues started. Physical throttles on unit are 2. But for 4 engine planes need to bind engines 1-2 to physical throttle 1 and 3-4 to physical throttle 2. Controls Section will not allow that. Not sure if the total number built into sim allows some of my other assignments. Thought I got some of them the other evening, but now not sure. My question: how many total button and lever assignments does FSX allow? Because, thought I had the battery switch assigned, and now it's not showing up, also a few others. So are/is there an aftermarket package which allows more assignments to new Throttle Unit. I would hate to have to take FSX off PC, it's has been my Goto flight sim, because MSFS-2020 mostly is a mess as spend more time tweaking things to get them to work, than actual flying. Plus, my favorite plane I bought several years ago the Virtavia C-17, and it (old) works much better than the freeware version currently available, and also better than the purchased on in XP-11. Actually, same problem in XP-11, two physical throttles, and need to assign 4 engines, nope cannot do that either. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated in this, would hate to lose FSX, actually will never get rid of the program, it will be with me till the end.
  10. Luco, be more specific on what exactly guidance you want, FSX is now 15 years old, and aside from the Accleration Pack, SP1 and SP2, nothing but aftermarket addons for it. Explain please, I do not use any "guidance" in FSX, it's has a built in extensive help database, keyboard commands and how they work. Check help as well.
  11. Although C-17 has a freeware version in MSFS, it's nothing compared to the one available in FSX, believe the one in XP-11 is even more adaptable to real world. I like flying that plane a lot, loves to fly. Aint the fastest bird in the sky, but just great all around good plane. I did excersie from Kabul, Afghanistan to Jackson, MS with one to mimic real world evac, the US screwed up big time, don't get me started. Anyway, got MSFS, FSX and XP all on PC, waiting for DVD on XP, since it will take less time that way than the DL way. Then once got it down, will purchase the C-17 for that sim. XP is a learning curve, but it's very, very stable, 2nd day out, Successful ILS approach/landing for 737, and have only been able to do that 10 times in MSFS it's so broken. FSX just works period.
  12. This information is also posted other places by me. Download MSFT Patch KB928080, run that, and SP2 should install just fine before the KB mentioned above. It fixed lots of problems on install, and activiation of FSX DVD Edition for me. Hope this helps realize this is an old thread.
  13. Here is something you might try. Download MSFT Patch KB928080, and run that. That fixed my issues. MSFT Pushed out an update from Intel, some sort of Sound Driver for the earphone connection in my external monitor for my laptop. This update screwed up all my sound options. First it does not show up in installed programs, so it's not something you can uninstall easy. Next it replaced the drivers blowing them out of the water. So I downloaded the latest driver from ASUS, then installed it, then had to find and disable the intel audio driver in Computer management. Then had to make the speakers in LP the default, and in FSX as well. Then headphones would not cancel speakers, so had to find the headphone control in the Realtek driver panel and fix that as well. This was a pain. No, INTEL, I don't hookup headphones to jack on external monitor, and don't appreciate your driver taking over my system. As an aside, does anyone know of a "Cargo Loading Addon" for FSX so I can load cargo into the C-17 to achieve max weight. Since all the doors operate via key commands, it would be nice to put some stuff in the plane. Thank you in advance.
