  1. Does anyone know if there are any issues with running MSFS2020 on an iMac with Parallels? I'd like to stick to a Mac rather than get a PC if I can. Thx Mike
  2. With the release of MSFS 2020 being such a hugh step forward all at once demanding a high end computer, I'm wondering if computers will advance and become cheaper faster than MSFS updates and later versions. So while you need a high end computer to run MSFS now, in a year or twoI would think (hope) that the average desktop would be cheaper AND fast enough to run MSFS with high settings? No Thx Mike
  3. Thanks Dave, Sounds like we are in the same camp. And I will probably wind up paying the same as you for my next rig. I too am older and who knows, might be buying my last rid myself. But just like you Ive been waiting for MS2020 all my flight sim days. So I would love to experience it at its best. I'm certainly no flight sim expert and less of a computer geek. It all gets me very frustrated. I keep saying, "This is it. I'm done with flight sims". But like a glutton for punishment I keep going back. Its a fact that flying real world is easier than flying sims. There just never seems to be and end to gltches and bug with sims. If flying real world wasn't so expensive (and dangerous where I live) I would stick to that. But I always go back to sims to feed my aviation addiction in a cheaper and safer way. Now that I wont be flying much real world for now, I figure I will have more money to put into a new rig that can give me a great experience. Unfortunately I get the feeling that I'm going to continue with the frustration even with the best of rigs. I was also thinking of using my new system exclusively for MS 2020, but its a same to spend so much to use for so little. I started out with MS 2000 or something. Since 2013 I jumped to Xplane 11 on an iMac 27". XPlane ran pretty good to begin with but is very slow now especially with weather. But the iMac is a good machine. I would never think of getting a mac with the specs I would on a PC. Way too much money. I wish I could get as much out of flight sims as many on this forum do. But I think you have to LIKE all the frustration that comes with flight sims. I'm just trying to get the best experience for the longest time. Mike
  4. Hello fellow aviation nuts, lol. I know that technically speaking, no one would complain about having a monster machine to run their flight simulator. At the same time, like most of us, I dont have bottomless pockets. Over the years I have always bought a "GOOD" computer for my flight sim needs, but have found that after a few years, I would have to reduce settings for things to run smooth. I am due for a new computer and with MS 2020 out, Im wondering if its a good idea to go way over budget to buy a monster machine in the hope that I would not have to buy a new computer in a few years. I dont have it yet, but I think MSFS 2020 is a dream come true for me. I would love to experience the highest settings possible for as long as possible, so much so, that I (am probably crazy for thinking this) am thinking about going all out for a top machine. My question is, will all this extra power give me so much more longevity that it would make the extreme cost worth it. This is what I'm looking at. Am I nuts? Dell Alienware Aurora R11 10th Gen Intel® Core™ i9 10900F (10-Core, 20MB Cache, 2.8GHz to 5.2GHz w/Thermal Velocity Boost) NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 3090 24GB GDDR6X 32GB Dual Channel HyperX™ FURY DDR4 XMP at 2933MHz; up to 64GB 2TB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD (Boot) + 2TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s (Storage) Total cost from Dell $4,800. I keep telling myself I have to be nuts, but I would really love to experience MS 2020 at its best settings for the longest amount of time. Your thoughts please, and thank you for your help. Mike
  5. To loki, I do appreciate the reply, and maybe I mentioned this in another post, but why does this have to be so hard. With all due respect to all you simmers, I'm really getting the feeling that flight simming is more about playing with computers than it is about flying. Its seems like all I read about is fram rates, video cards, getting this to work, or getting that to work, designing planes, creating scenery, and everything BUT flying. I guess this is just not for me. Thanks
  6. Ok, Update. NaturalPoint says TrackIR does NOT work on a Mac. My question now is, Why is there an option to enable it in the settings. Does X-Plane simply use the same screen for a Mac as it does on a Windows computer, and the option is there but just inactive on the Mac computers?
  7. I DO see that option for TrackIR in the settings menu! What I don't understand now is, Why didn't NaturalPoint simply say, "Yes, it does work with X-Plane on a Mac. Just go to Setting/Equipment and select TrackIR". I don't get it. If Amazon agrees to me returning it, if it doesn't work, I might as well buy it and give it a shot. Unless you think the other one, FaceTrackNoIR is better. maybe I should look into both before buying either. Thanks for the info
  8. Thank you DominicS ! Bingo! Just the sort info I was looking for. First, I will look into the FaceTrackNoIR. I figured there must be something for us Mac users, I only just recently heard about TrackIR and and didn't know there was other hardware for Macs And Second, I didn't know that option existed in X-PLane. That option would certainly give you the impression that TrackIR DOES work with X-Plane. But would that be the windows versions of X-Plane? I have not purchased TrackIR yet. I did send a message to the manufacturer and asked if TrackIR worked on a Mac and the answer was certainly not yes. They gave me a link to someone that buys a bunch of their TrackIR's, and than reprograms them to work on a Mac. I said, thanks, but no thanks. It sounded like too much trouble, and didn't want to mess with anything that was designed to. But I will look into the FaceTrackNoIR Thanks Mike
  9. Thanks for the reply. Now I really don't know where to go. Let me explain. I have used microsoft FS on a PC for many years and experienced more frustration than enjoyment. I had heard a lot of positive things about X-Plane on a Mac, so when looking for a new computer I bought an iMac and X-Plane 10. To be honest, I preferred MicroSoft over X-Plane. I missed MFS so much, I bought an older version of Windows (6 or 7, I forget right now) and installed it using BootCamp. I loaded MSF onto Windows/BootCamp, and some things are a little quirky with that, such as keyboard commands. I tried to buy a windows keyboard but that didn't work either. I'm a fairly new real world pilot, (a little over 100 hrs) and I have to say, it is easier to fly a real plane than a Sim. Anyway, I was hoping, (now that I have a Mac) to keep things as simple as possible by sticking to X-Plane on the Mac OS and just getting use to that. Then BAAM!, I hear about TrackIR. One of my biggest pet peeves about sims is using views. You don't have to worry about that when flying a real plane, you just look where you want to look. Now I wish that I would have bought a powerful PC and started using Prepar3D. Its going to be awhile before I can do that. I always seem to have more trouble than its worth, yet I'm addicted to flying and would love to have a setup that works for me. I don't know where to go from here. I can't believe there is no market form TrackIR in the Mac world.
  10. The greatest break though for flight simming would be the TrackIR, or more specifically, ANY hardware that would do what TrackIR does. And NOBODY is interested in this topic. If the people who make TrackIR would hear from Mac users more, maybe they would see a market for this and develop it. I can't believe that no one is replying to this post. There has to be someone that is interested in a view tool like this. No?
  11. I have always felt that "viewing" was the biggest problem with any flight simulator. When I heard about TrackIR, I thought, problem solved. I would think a lot more people would be interested in this, but I guess not
  12. I just learned that TrackIR does not work on a Mac (serious bummer). I'm wondering if anyone has found a similar solution for viewing that can work on a Mac. Thanks for your help Mike
  13. Hi Rnglgdj, Sorry I haven't responded to your post. I have a lot going on, and I hate to say that this has to take a back burner at times, and then I forget completely for a while.

I really appreciate your offer. I would love to talk to someone who is sim flying successfully. If the offer is still on the table, let me know, and we can exchange numbers.

    Thanks

    Mike

  14. Mike don't give up. I gave up on getting my PPL and did not get it so I am just using the sim. If you want to talk about it give me a call. I will give you my # if you are interested. I am in W Pa.
