  1. OK- so far so good. Load times have improved. I have completed two short flights so far. I will keep you posted. - Bob
  2. Steve, I have reinstalled the sim. I did not get to fly yet, but it loaded quickly and shut down quickly on command (not a CTD). I will keep everyone posted. I hope this works. -B
  3. Something is going wrong. It has taken longer and longer to load the sim and the subsequent chosen flight. Now I've had a CTD as soon as the flight finished loading. On top of it all, my TrackIR stopped working. To recap: No overclocking Running 1080p None of my settings are beyond high 32 GB of RAM Decent i7 processor GeForce GTX 1660 Super Nothing in my community folder Great internet- fast and stable Frustration mounts.
  4. Thanks for your response. I do not have anything overclocked. I will look into the website you suggested. As to my other question, has anyone had success with fixing CTDs and freezes by doing a full reinstall? I also wonder if AI traffic might have something to do with this. There are times when I see two of the same AI planes, one following the other by a few seconds. -B
  5. Plainsman, Thank you for taking the time to respond. My community folder only has the H135 helicopter add-on. I will take it out just in case. Windows 10 is always up to date. I have looked at the temps while the sim is running, plus MSI afterburner shows the peak temp of the GPU, the CPU temp and the temp of each core of the CPU. The highest I am getting is on the CPU which will top out at 70C. The tower has plenty of ventilation. Do you have any suggestions for stress testing? I am beginning to wonder if this is a component issue. OH- and just to add- most of my graphics settings are on high- nothing is on ultra. I am running at 1080p. Thanks again. -B
  6. My version of MSFS is becoming increasingly unstable. It has always frozen or crashed at various times during flight, but now it will freeze when pressing escape to pause during flight and when exiting the simulator at the end of a session. MSI afterburner is showing good temps for the CPU and GPU. Has anyone had good success with performing a complete reinstall? Or... What programs would you recommend to stress test my intel i7-9700F, 32 GB of ram, and GeForce GTX 1660 Super? I am open to the possibility that I have a hardware problem. MSFS is the only program that crashes or freezes for me. Thanks everyone! -B
  7. Everything was fine with my sim, at least I think it was. Then a few days ago my TrackIR didn't work when I started the sim, but a restart of the sim helped. Yesterday I had my first CTD when I moved the crash bar on the TBM. On the restart flight, after 10 minutes or so, TrackIR stopped working again. I thought I read somewhere about peripheral controllers causing the problem. Does anybody know about this? Thanks – B
  8. For that matter, and more importantly, does anyone know why this is happening? That might lead us to a solution. -B
  9. Several times I have experienced a decrease of frame rates from the 30-40 range to the 18-20. This would be a gradual transition. In another post, I thought I had the problem solved, but turns out I did not. Today I think I found what triggers it. Changing the weather. I get 30-40 in bad weather, including snow and icing. I stay around 40 or so in clear weather. Here is the interesting thing- no matter which way I change the weather from its initial state, from bad or clear or clear to bad, my frame rates decrease and won't recover. It says "limited by main thread." One would think that they would be fine once returning to clear weather, but they don't recover. My CPU temps never goes above 65, not a single core goes above 65. A sim restart is required for them to return to normal. Any thoughts? -B i7-9700f GeForce 1660 Super, only running at 1080p- 16 GB ram, never using more than 11, fast internet connection
  10. I posted about this before. Here is the problem I was encountering. I am running an i7-9700f with a GeForce 1660 super at 1080p. V-sync is turned off, and most graphic settings are on high. I would start at 40 fps, interestingly regardless of the weather. According to the task manager's performance monitoring, my CPU and GPU aren't really being used above 50%. Within a few minutes, often within a minute, I would see a loss of FPS from 40 to 18 or so. If I changed the weather, it would immediately jump back up, even if I changed to bad weather with a lot of clouds. Then, the FPS would decrease again. My CPU and GPU are not getting hot, and the task manager does not show a change in their use. The CPU stays at 4.5 Ghz. So I don't think they are throttling down. This loss of frame rates occurs at about 1 frame every few seconds. In other words, it will take about thirty seconds for it to go down. I can watch them gradually decrease. OK- on YouTube I found a suggestion- "Disable full screen optimization" and "Override High DPI Scaling Behavior." I did both of those things, and I think it solved the problem. But the suggestions weren't specific to this problem, just an overall strategy to getting the most our of the sim. Fast-forward to yesterday. I had to restart my computer, and when I went back into the simulator the loss of FPS occurred again. So I double-checked, and the restart wiped out the changes of "Disable full screen optimization" and "Override High DPI Scaling Behavior." So I reset them, and the problem seems to have gone away. I wonder- could that actually be the solution? Is it one or the other, or both? More importantly, would anyone know why these things would help? -B
  11. Thanks for your reply. I am already running at 1080p, and changing the graphic setting did not make a difference when it happened. Oddly, last time I went on the sim, I ran MSI afterburner in the background to see if the CPU was getting too hot. The highest temp was 65 C. The sim did not slow down this time. Has anyone else seen this- a gradual slow down of frame rates? -B
  12. My FPS will gradually go from 40 to 20 and won't recover. I can't identify the problem. The FPS display in developer's mode is saying "Limited by Main Thread." The Task Manager is showing 50-60% CPU usage. Any ideas? Thanks ahead of time for any help you might provide. -B PS- This has been edited. I was watching the frame rate counter, and the frames gradually decreased. i7-10700, GeForce GTX 1660 Super, 16 MB of ram
