  1. The way MS is dealing with MSFS2020, it was released as essentially a pre-beta with lots of problems that they are slowly improving with fairly frequent updates. In my opinion whenever the Content Manager says there's an update, we should allow the update. On my computers each set of updates has improved things, at least for the casual way I use the program.
  2. Curiously, in the recent purchase by Microsoft of the ZeniMax game studios (and all the various game studios that ZeniMax owns) they issued a statement to the effect that no longer would games be released incomplete to be "fixed" in update patches flowing out rapidly after release. Funny how they would make that statement, given how they've managed to do essentially that with MSFS2020 -- although the frequency of the update patches leaves a lot to be desired. However, for my flying situation (practically all of it VFR, short flights in single-engine planes) MSFS2020 works just fine with a few start-up failures putting me back on the desktop. And I've always got FS9 with all of the addons I purchased to fall back on if MSFS2020 fails me. FS-X never worked well for me, no matter what sort of hardware I have used, so I never really enjoyed that. But FS9 is solid as a rock, frame rates close to 100fps with graphic sliders on full.
  3. FSX never worked well for me, despite having hardware that far exceeds the recommended specs from MS. But I've kept FS9 on all my computers because I've got incredible frame rates with it, excellent flying. I've got X-Plane 11 but I've never enjoyed it because it's a bit too realistic for a casual flight-simmer like me. Even at its easiest it was never as easy to fly as FS9 or FSX. But with FS2020, it's flying great on both my desktop (really high graphics settings) and on my notebook (using the suggested settings that MS set up when it installed), so I will be removing Xplane now and only flying FS2020. Eye-candy, that's my delight! And whatever IFR flying I can manage to accomplish, great. But daytime flying anywhere in the world with these graphics -- I'm in heaven!
  4. I tried it on my laptop with an xbox controller and find that it's horrible that way. I haven't spent a lot of time trying to assign the important controls, but I think if you spend some time in the Control dialog assigning the important controls that you want to use most often that you'll be able to make it work, even if nowhere near as nicely as with a joystick.
