  1. When MSFS 2020 was first released (Aug 2020) it was said to have an intended lifespan of 10 years. I wonder how the announced release of MSFS 2024 will affect such forecast. MSFS being basically an on-line sim, I'm uncertain how much server bandwith Microsoft will reserve for MSFS 2020, once MSFS 2024 is released. As for now, I think I'll stick to MSFS 2020 not only because of the presumably higher hardware requirements for MSFS 2024, but also because this one has been said to have "goals to achieve" (more gamelike then), as opposite to the "open world" MSFS 2020 offers. We'll see anyhow.
  2. Impressive. I can only be utterly grateful. Now it will take me a bit longer in order to figure all this out Thanks once again, this kind of support is what gives sense to a forum like this.
  3. Hi grimsel, thank you very much for your reply. Of course we are dealing with freeware scenery, I want to exclude objects only in one of the scenery packages, and I'm perfectly familiar with ordering (layering) packages. The only requirement I don't meet, then, is the 1st one: I don't have any knowledge about creating scenery projects. That's why I expected some advice on the required tools or techniques. Can you help me in that matter? Thanks again in advance, best regards.
  4. Hi scenery designers out there: I've got two scenery files (basically landmark collections) covering about the same area. If I install both in Community, some objects (which are included in both files) appear duplicate, conflicting badly. I'd like to keep some objects from each file, but avoiding any duplicities. Is there any tool and/or tecnique I could use to exclude the unwanted objects? Thanks in advance, best regards.
  5. This happened to me today, just after updating Nvidia drivers to 532.03 through GeForce Experience. I had thought the system wouldn't let me revert to an older driver so easily, but the solution suggested above worked like a charm. Thanks Tiger!! Now I only wonder if I should stay with 531.29 forever, ignoring all future upadate warnings from GeForce Experience (?)
  6. So it's just a matter of personal preferences, as stated many posts above. That's OK. Anyhow, a better choice of words might be desirable: "Malware" sounds as if you're stating all Steam users around the world have all their personal and/or financial data at risk just by installing the software.
  7. So you're basically saying that Steam management software is malware. Wow.
  8. I know buying MSFS can be a bit scary at first. It is such a different process from what we've been used to for many years, but it is worth it, believe me. Specially if you're comparing it to FS9 (you're not even speaking of FSX!!). And of course, forget about buying DVDs. It's much smoother loading it on-line, and you'll be updating it very often, so the DVDs will be outdated since minute zero. Such frequent updating is absolutely necessary in MSFS, since it is played on-line, which requires everybody to use the same version. Since you play it on-line, you need a MS account, which is free. Now for the preferences (other may advice you differently). I bought it from Steam, which also requires an account (free of course), but everthing works smoothly and painless there. I wholeheartedly recommend it. And I also recommend the Standard Edition. The sim core is exactly the same as the Deluxe and Premium, and with these you'll be paying a good dough for a bunch of extra planes, which most probably you won't use, once you start buying the 3rd party add-ons you really like. Don't give up. As I said above, it's worth it.
  9. You can safely delete everything you don't want from the in-game Content Manager. I usually do that after every update. Not sure it makes a difference in starting time, but sure makes a HUGE difference in saving drive space.
  10. Sure you're right, but Windows Backup Image feature is perfectly valid to making a system's complete image on a USB drive, then swapping internal drives, then restoring the image on the new drive (provided it's of the same type as the original, only larger). I've done that quite a few times.
  11. Hi, even if I completely assume macrium or any other 3rd party cloning software must work great, I wonder what's the need of it, when we have the 'Backup Image" tool natively in Windows. I'd much appreciate any comments, thanks in advance.
  12. The steam gauge C172 in itself doesn't seem a reason enough for the extra cost (IMHO anyway), specially when we have a wonderful steam gauge C152, which gets far above any other stock aircraft when you add to it the superb freeware JPLogistics enhancement mod. Incidentally, there's a similar mod by bagolu for the C172, but it only covers the glass cockpit version, since the steam gauge C172 appears to be 'encrypted' (ironical, ain't it?) Even if I rushed to buy the Deluxe version, I've always regretted it, since I ended deleting most of the extra aircraft and using almost exclusively 3rd party add-ons, just as Nels stated above. But you already knew this, don't you? We've discussed this in the past.
  13. OK, tried again 30 min later and this time everything went OK as expected. It is now indeed v1.30.12.0. Thanks for your reply.
  14. How do I know the update is actually installed? Just have launched MSFS but apparently nothing has changed, even if I checked I was online. I assume this update is mainly for glass cockpits, which I don't use at all. Could this be the reason? Thanks in advance, best regards.
