  1. I was the Enlisted Crew member on the Coast Guard 6555 when TACA Flight 110 lost both engines flying through a Severe Thunderstorm off New Orleans. GE, the engine manufacturer changed the Op Manual to keep the igniters on when flying through severe weather conditions BECAUSE of this Incident. The Aircraft Commander for Our Helo was Cdr. Doug Martin, I Apologize for Forgetting the CP. We Took out of NAS New Orleans in a FULL THUNDERSTORM with LIMITED VISIBILITY, ( maybe 1/2 mi ), and since I knew the area, ( I lived with my family in south of Chalmette, St. Bernard Parish down at Toca ), I knew of the 1200 ft Antennas in the area - SO WE FLEW Highway 47 towards the FLYING Aircraft with Vectors from New Orleans Approach, ( now with maybe 1/4 mile vis ). When We Got between the Antenna Fields on either side of the highway, Approach told us they had LOST CONTACT with TACA FLT 110 around the MICHOUD Facility. We Flew up to the bridge passing over the Inter Coastal Canal by Michoud Facility and passing over the power lines paralleling the bridge we dropped down to make contact with the waterway Visually and We SAW THE TAIL to the left of us just the other side of the Levy. WE EXPECTED VICTIMS to Medivac. By THE GRACE OF GOD and The SKILL of THE PILOTS they landed on the INSIDE Edge of the Levy next to the DEEP DITCH that Drains the Protected Area Inside the Levy. My Helo is the One Shown on the Levy. Personal from Michoud and the Local EMS was arriving at that Time We were. Everyone had exited the Aircraft by then and was SAFE. PAX LIST was ALL the Executives of TACA at that Time since this was the Inaugural Flight for this Aircraft type by TACA. The Recovery of the aircraft Required Take Off on the old Runway surface which started at the Facility Building and headed directly towards the Bridge that crossed the Inter Coastal; MAX EFFORT Take Off, Min-Fuel and TEST PILOTS.
