  1. Happy Christmas to one and all. Geoff (from just a stones thow from Bradford in Ilkley)
  2. Well, I own it, have about 300 hours flying in it, that is if you count the 100 or so hours I had before it trashed my flight log. After a year, it is so good I have removed it from by box to make way for more Xplane and FS9 scenery. Yes they are very different from this version, but the fact is they work. They are flight simulators, as opposed to Bing maps viewers. Geoff
  3. Thank you all for your good wishes and constructive comments. I will pop in to the forums now and again, and I may even try it again in a few months. But for now, I'm quite happy flying the sims that work for me, and to be honest, I need to keep an eye on my blood pressure. @Mark, I fully agree with your comments about fs9, it is rock solid stable and a pleasure to use. Thanks again Geodd
  4. Thanks Steve, but yes, I will get more pleasure actually flying in the other sims, than encountering the problems in the new one. Perhaps it's an age thing, at almost 70 maybe I'm past trying to sort problems, and quite happy with things that just work. I'm sure that in a few years MSFS will be the goto sim, and I will have another look at it if I am still around ;-) Geoff
  5. After the latest shambolic update which, for me, brought back the old problem of the aircraft not being able to move despite full engine power, I've decided enough is enough. I thank all those who have been some help to me on this forum, and I apologise again to anyone I may have upset with my frustration and rants. I will use prepar3d and Fs9 once again for my flight sim purposes. For those of you for whom the sim works, I am more than pleased. For those that have the many problems, I realise that this is not the place to let my feelings known, and for this reason I have posted to the MS Forums as below. Clear Skies and Safe Landings to you all, Goodbye Geoff Having used flight simulator software since 1995, I can honestly say that this is the most buggy and unfit for purpose software that I have ever come across. I have struggled for over a year now wanting it to work, willing it to work, tweaking this and tweaking that, but it just gets worse. Every time something is fixed, something else is broken. If Asobo are reading this then l suggest you tear it all down and start again. If Microsoft are reading this then maybe its time to look for fresh developers. Don't suppose my opinion counts for anything, but for the moment it is just a complete waste of hard drive space. Geoff
  6. This worked for me too. Thank you so much for the tip, it is nice to see some really helpful people in these forums. Geoff
  7. Hi Mark Guess you are like me, and drop in here occasionally to see if things have improved any. Afraid not, it is the same shambles it was when released. It works for some, heavens knows how, but the majority of us are expected to be beta testers. Eventually, Microsoft will have to step in and develop it properly, that is if they don't just drop it like Flight and FSX. Geoff
  8. Hi Steve Yes, Orbx are pretty good at sorting their products out quickly. However I do not think it is acceptable for the end user to have to try and figure out which addons are causing the problem when those addons were marketed and sold within the developers product. This particular problem was soon sorted out, because one knew where to look for the cause of the problem, but this is not always so. For many months I had CTD's after a short period flying and tried everything to try and sort them out, including monitoring the cpu heat as suggested in this forum. Eventually I discovered that the CTD's were caused by faulty flight plans. If you make a flight plan in the sim, then fly it, go back to the main menu and make another flight plan, more often than not, the first flight plan remains in the memory and the GPS. Moreover external flight plans (I used littlenavmap) also cause havoc. Load a flight plan and then starting off runway causes the flight plan to be cleared. I believe it is these issues which caused the CTD's I have flown many hours now by restarting the sim after flying a flight plan and by not using an external flight planner. I have not had a single CTD. If you look at Zendesk, the problem with flight plans has been there since the sim was released. The bugs have yet to be fixed. I think the point I am trying to make is that it is the responsibility of the developers to ensure that their software is fit for purpose, and not that of the end user. I only use the GA aircraft as a 'scenery viewer', I gave up on the larger aircraft a long time ago. Now I can't use a full tank of fuel in the Cessna 172 because I can't move the fuel lever from selecting the right tank. As I say, it's the most unstable piece of software I've ever come across. Geoff
  9. It's probably nothing to do with your hardware or internet connection. After this update, I find: Unable to fly anywhere near London with Orbx addons enabled (Payware from so called Market Place) Cessna 172 - Unable to move fuel selector At times unable to get back to options or menu as the escape key does not work. G1000 heading selector no longer works properly. G1000 CDI selection softkey does not work properly. Had plenty of problems before the update but none of these. I agree, it's the most unstable software that I have ever come across. Will wait for the next patch or hotfix and just hope that does not break too much Geoffff
  10. Oh I really hope so! I hope the developers are reading this, they appear to ignore the problems on their own forums. Geoff
  11. Although FS2020 is coming along nicely, it will be a while, IMHO, before it has the simulation immersion of either FSX of Prepar3d. By this I mean that it is far from stable with random CTD's, autopilots that still go astray now and again, and erratic flight dynamics at times. And, although PMDG and Aerosoft appear now to be coming on board, there is at present a lack of study level aircraft. I still use FS2020 and appreciate what it brings to the table, scenery exploration is fantastic, but for what I would call a decent simulation experience, I have purchased Prepar3d v5. With just the Orbx Global scenery, autogen trees and buildings, for me, it looks fantastic. I have actually bought quite a lot of Orbx scenery, and together with the PMDG Boeings and Aerosoft Airbus, it knocks spots of FS2020. It just works out of the box, doesn't need an internet connection, and in two months of using it, I have yet to experience a CTD. Geoff
  12. Thanks for the link. I've downloaded HW monitor and will use it for a few longer flights and see if anything shows up. Geoff
  13. Thanks for the suggestions. I've not overclocked. Never thought about a heat problem, its an off-the-shelf DELL xps case, I think there are two fans, but have never had the cover off to check. I'll look into it. Thanks again, Geoff
  14. I believe I have tried everything now to get rid of the dreaded crash to desktop. Nothing in the Community folder. Windows Page file set as advised Hard drive checked for both errors and viruses. Nothing else running but MSFS Video drivers are the latest Windows 10 fully up to date regarding updates And yet I can still only fly for about 90minutes before I get the dreaded pause and stutter followed by the crash to desktop without any message or explanation. I have monitored the CPU and memory useage in task manager and nothing seems to be amiss. Any ideas or thoughts would be welcome. Geoff
