  1. "On a humerous note, In a previous version of MSFS (possibly FS98) a freeware addon scenery for somewhere in the world accidently created a building about two miles high right smack in the middle of the runway at the default Meigs."

Hi there, I remember that one very well. Scarred hell out of me, also took me a while to find out how it got there. Some developer (strange name - do not remember) pulled a joke at us. I finally found out, which add-on it was and deleted it.

  2. Apart from the exciting early days of FS2004 experimentation (it was a massive advance on its predecessors) I have never started with the original default flight. That said, none of my saved flights have ever been saved as the default flight. The option "Save Flight" is a bit of a misnomer. It should have been something like Save Aircraft/Location. On a humerous note, In a previous version of MSFS (possibly FS98) a freeware addon scenery for somewhere in the world accidently created a building about two miles high right smack in the middle of the runway at the default Meigs.
  3. Thanks for the heads up and to Greg for his truly spectacular scenery creation and France VFR for their generosity. The combination is top of the range.

    Heading problem

I had this problem some years ago and a search here found this explanation and simplest solution provided by resident FS genius Tom Gibson :). Post#7 https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?298046-True-vs-Magnetic-headings&highlight=runway+headings I did what Tom suggested and never had the problem again. Saved trawling through hundreds of addon sceneries.
  5. As I rely heavily on ASE I thought I'd better check this out. Having run the sim for an hour, thankfully no problems arise. Of the SSL's highlighted in post#10 only SSL2.0 and 3.0 are ticked in my system. 1.0 is not and there's no 1.1 or 1.2 box to tick. Use HTTP1.1 is also ticked. My flight deck runs on Win XP Pro SP3. What OS is installed on the machines with the problem?
  6. This happens to me sometimes when I load a previously saved plan. Updating the database often means that previous waypoints used in previous plans are no longer in use so can't now appear in that plan. Just modify the plan with the up-to-date waypoints. Not a problem as far as I'm concerned.
  7. I go back to Bruce Artwick/Sublogic on the Commodore 64 then A320 and ATP and on to MSFS. As each version of the latter was released I had no hesitation in moving on. By the time FS2004 arrived I had already spent years putting together a longed-for flight deck with the keyboard redundant and replaced by switches and levers, yoke, pedals, autopilot, radios, etc. FS2004 was the icing on the cake. For me, flying on one screen with the panel taking up half of it had long since become a no-no and I’d never go back to that. Having the big screen (plus large Fresnel lens) for outside view with the home-made instrument panels (FS Panel Studio) on extra screens below was the only way to go. Hundreds of addons (Scenery, Mesh, FS Nav, FSMeteo/Active Sky, World of AI, etc, etc) have added huge extra enjoyment. Like everyone else I was looking forward to the new version, FSX. Unfortunately, it proved to be no more than a stutter-fest – even on Microsoft’s own computers on their stand at a flightsim show in the UK. I never bought into it and, as well as that, MS itself gave up on it and, later on, further embarrassed itself with Flight. I’ve no interest in P3D or XPlane. As time went by I built faster flight sim PC's a few times but still running on Windows XP Pro SP3. At each upgrade I just imaged the existing drive and restored it to a new HDD or subsequently, SSD. It runs flawlessly every time with all sliders to the right. It’s a boot up, open the flight deck door and go fly situation. No messing about with settings and with smooth flight every time. So, to answer Skywatcher12. If the new MSFS can do all that for me I could be in but I have grave doubts about that.
  8. Sorry but not even an FS2004 Facebook site would get me to sign up to social media. I go back a long way with flight simulation and flightsim, avsim, have been the go-to sites from the beginning. Add in the likes of HJG and you've got all you need.
  9. There may be many, like myself, who have been flying V1.7 all these years not knowing that V1.8 had been released! Thanks to the VOZ team for a job magnificently done over all the years.
