  1. Even more fun, Pat, it's running under W7. I went away for a while and the sims never got updated to W10, groan, but at least we missed W8! System is a dual HD with the sim installed on the D drive, 9.1 and the no-disc option is installed (Note: Yes, we did purchase licenses for both copies of FS, but we do not leave the disc in the drive or it would be long gone.) If we did not run these things under Admin/Guest you would not believe how much damage would be done to them. God bless our volunteers, but they're not simmers, and you would not believe the amount of "mischief" people will do to them, and a few days after an open house I'll go back and clean them up. (Some of the saved flight names are pretty funny, though , I will admit)
  2. Hi Pat, Just some background: https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?318218-Help-wanted-A-Garry-J-Smith-Project We've got the 2 computers under Admin mode (password protected, and only a couple people have the password) and Guest mode for open houses. The odd thing is that under Admin mode, everything works fine. Switch to Guest mode, and *coughcough*, engine(s) shut down. Odd. I was raised in a Navy family, Dad was 20 year enlisted, and I got shipped off to Devil Pups in the late 70s when I misbehaved. Understand about not calling you Sir. Oorah!!!! Take care, Steve
  3. Excellent, found it. Many thanks, sir. That'll give me somthing to chew on today.
  4. Hi Pat, Here's an odd thing, I don't have a FS9.cfg file. Got a FS200.cfg, but that's it. Odd....
  5. I'd like to adapt your Pearl Harbor Project for use in the sims in our flight museum, please PM to get in contact with me. Thanks, Steve
  6. I'm sorry, leuen (or anyone else), I've been playing with AFCAD and been unable to find where these codes are when I open an airport. If I just click on the file I get a blank, tan screen in AFCAD, if I type in the airport ID I get the full airport, but I don't see a way to read these *******.bgl file names. What am I missing? Thanks, Steve
  7. When I start the program via "FlyNow", then engine is running but suddenly shuts off, requiring a ctl-e restart. Any ideas? Got it dialed all the way back to Easy mode, probably just a simple setting but I can't find it. Thanks, Steve
  8. Thanks leuen, have a look at this thread please: https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?318218-Help-wanted-A-Garry-J-Smith-Project
  9. Garry & I developed the aircraft for the Heritage Flight Museum on our own time in 2009, while he was commissioned by the Historic Flight Foundation to do repaints of their aircraft (F8F, F7F, etc), and the rebuild of Paine Field to WW II specs. But now, for the rest of the story.... To blow off steam, and as a present for Maj Gen Bill Anders, Garry, Nigel Booth, and I decided on our own time to build Anders Field, and the Pete Conrad Space Center. These images have only been seen by a very few people, and I think it's long past time they be shared. Garry packaged all these into 3 self-extracting files that rely on each other for installation, and unfortunately, I'm not FS literate enough to be able to extract and rebuild the repaints and airports not under contract to Mr. Sessions into one that can be shared with the simming community. Anyone interested in helping? I think they would serve as a fine tribute to my old friend.
  10. Background: I've been involved with flight simming for as long as I can remember, and several years ago I made the acquaintance of long time MSFS repainter Garry J. Smith over the internet. In 2009 that led to us becoming involved in a project for the Heritage Flight Museum and the Historic Flight Foundation. Together we recreated both Bellingham Airport and Paine Field as they were during WWII, and repainted flight sim models in the livery of the museum aircraft. Thus, visitors to the museums can pretend to fly at Bellingham or Paine as they were during WWII in the actual aircraft that are on display a few feet away, something that no other museum has done. We took a little artistic license with Bellingham, since during WW II it was basically a small (but beautiful) terminal, 3 runways, and dirt, so we enhanced it with a few extra hangars and hardstands. It was a fun project. Garry lived down under in Oz, while I'm up in Puget Sound, WA so there was a large and convenient time difference between us. I'd work on research and planning all day, and send ideas to Garry before I went to bed along the lines of "Can you do this???". By the time I woke up he'd have put a full day in, and I'd pick up where he left off. To this day, if I stop by the Heritage Flight Museum I always see the sims in use. In 2011 Garry and I collaborated again when the 39th Fighter Squadron held their annual reunion at the Heritage Flight Museum. In the days following the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, there was a strong fear that the next step was an invasion of the west coast of the United States, and the 39th Fighter Squadron's P-39s were hastily deployed to Bellingham as defense. Later they were redeployed to the South Pacific, serving with distinction during the war. http://www.cobraintheclouds.com/39thorganization/39thhistory.html As part of the reunion, we took a P-39 model and repainted it in the 39ths colors, and during a break in the reunion the two surviving original pilots who were deployed to Bellingham were brought to the sims. I was privileged to talk them through "One last mission" in the skies over Bellingham. In the photo below, Col. Frank Royal is at the controls while off camera his children, grand-children and visitors looked on. https://seareybuild.blogspot.com/2013/08/and-colored-girl-goes.html
  11. No worries, got both your PMs so they were sent after all. Right now we're in the planning stage, don't think anything will happen fast but will let you know.
  12. Hi again Tom, Tried that this morning and it worked well, but anytime I booted I got an error message/nag screen that the scery.cfg file was unable to locateXYZ. So I opened the master Scenery.cfg file, changed ACTIVE=TRUE to ACTIVE=FALSE, left the files where they were, and it worked great. Now I'm in the process of isolating the airports I want in the namw section, but with 1,000+ airports in the database I'm probably going to have to let that go for a while, there are only about a half dozen airports we want to keep. (KBVS, KBLI, KPAE, KSEA, plus the custom built ones Garry did for us that should be in the Add-on scenery database.
  13. Hello, I run a sim station for an aviation museum, several years ago the late, legendary Garry J. Smith repainted several aircraft in the colors of our museum aircraft, allowing visitors to fly the airplanes sitting right next to them. In the last few years we've acquired a few new aircraft, and we'd like to add them to our sims. If anyone is interested in donating their time for a good cause, please PM me for details. Here's an example of the work Garry & I did: https://seareybuild.blogspot.com/2013/08/and-colored-girl-goes.html Thanks, Steve
  14. Hi Tom, Perfect, many thanks. No, we don't need to eliminate the buildings, etc, we're just tired of visitors resetting the machines to some other airport, when our whole focus is on the local areas, and we want our volunteers to be able to easily reset the sims back to them.
  15. Hi all, I know this is going to sound odd, but I maintain a FS2004 flight sim for an aviation museum, and for various reasons I'd like to delete all the rest of the airports in the world except for the local ones we want our visitors o focus on. Is this possible? Thanks,
