  1. For some bizarre reason OCCASIONALY when I park my plane after a flight and switch to external all I see is the shadow of the plane or a very detailed view of the aircraft as though it were cut in half with very detailed views of the interior seating and cockpit . after saving the flight and going back in it all has resorted back to normal ! ??? If I had not switched to external view I would not have had a clue something was amiss !! Anyone else experience this?
  2. I'm curious how many of you have run in to this situation flying free flight IFR : I filed an IFR free flight plan from KCLT NC to KPWM ME in the Beech King Air 300. All went well until I got my last vector from destination KPWM approach setting me up for RWY 29. Prior to getting that I had saved the flight about 40 miles out. I suspected there would be a hitch because it has happened more than once. Basically, the vector set me up for a left downwind 29. I kept waiting and waiting and waiting for the final vector to turn, pick up the localizer and contact tower. It never came! I would have flown all the way to Europe if I hadn't finally canceled IFR! I then contacted the PWM tower with my position and was given permission to land straight in to RWY 29. On the way in I spotted another aircraft lower in front and on a final to 29. I knew I was overtaking him and would inevitably be given a GO AROUND. I did a 360 giving him time to land and clear the RWY as the tower had him contact ground. I came out perfectly aligned for my final with no further comm to me from tower. Then I spotted another plane just below and ahead of me and way to close again as the tower gave him permission to land. At this point I gave up knowing I would be caught in this go around loop situation again lost sight of the other plane as I passed over him and simply landed with the tower telling me " N150ew I did not give you permission to land" After landing I was told to contact ground. All was normal after that. As I said, this has happened to me on more than one occasion. Obviously always at the very end of an otherwise uneventful long flight :( Kent
  3. Howard: Take a look at my recent post on the forum . Turns out I have a new lease on life with FSX :) Excuse the rather lengthy explanation . I gave the steam addition serious thought and even downloaded the steam.com site. It must be my age but I found that site so dammed confusing to use I gave up on it and focused on just trying to get the disk 1 & 2 from the DVD installed. Once I was able to put in the Product Keycode successfully ( wish I knew exactly what I did to have it suddenly pop up ) I then focused on why I couldn't get out of the " 30 minute trial" flight loop . That's when I started to look in to whether I had SP 1 & 2 installed. Frankly I didn't realize those 2 service packs had anything directly to do with activating the sight for full normal use. As soon as I downloaded them the error message disappeared and my FSX is running better than ever . thanks for the response:) Kent PS: I find this site to be very helpful but also find it rather confusing to Navigate through the various functions which is why I didn't find your reply sooner. I cant even find my last forum entry?? but apparently you did lol
  4. I had been flying FSX long before the Windows 10 upgrade and continued long after the upgrade with no problems . Unfortunately a week or so ago my computer died with a blue screen that was impossible to restore . ( or so I thought ) As a last resort I threw caution to the wind and downloaded Windows from the cloud . To my amazement it installed with no problems and I had little if any problems restoring previous apps and files . With one very important acceptation . You guessed it : MSFS would not reinstall from DVD 1 & 2 ! I would get that confusing " repair / remove " popup window that almost everyone seems to get with no clear cut way to continue. I simply couldn't get to the point where it asked to put in my product key code despite removing all associated files and 4 or 5 attempts to install the disks . Finally I must have hit the right combination of attempts because all of a sudden the window pops up asking me to type the product key in. It successfully accepted the product key code and I figured I was home free. " WRONG "I was able to pull up FSX home page but a pop up window still appeared telling me I had an error ( but no error code number) I then discovered that I could actually access and fly the simulator by clicking on the home page . The popup window error would disappear. I thought the pop up error might be a fluke and as long as FSX worked ok I could put up with it. " WRONG AGAIN"Turns out after 30 minutes of a trouble free flight another window suddenly pops up thanking me for trying out the " trial Version " of FSX and to register the product key to get the full game!! This is "after " I had registered it successfully!! After much web searching and having known about SP 1 & 2 I decided to check my files to see if those were downloaded . I couldn't find them. I never thought they would have anything directly to do with the problem . "WRONG A 3rD TIME "! After searching I discovered both service pack downloads on this site posted by Nels Anderson on 4-15-20 . Downloaded both and to my utter amazement FSX is running flawlessly and even better than before ! I'm a private pilot with some 800 hours of flight time but definitely not a MSFS computer Geek. I have a lot of hours on FSX most of which is single and dual engine and was attempting an around the world northern hemisphere with the Beech King Air when this problem started. So here are a couple of simple suggestions : A: Don't panic if your fan or drive make a loud noise while installing disk 1& 2 and seem to take awhile. B: I wish I knew for sure what I did on that " remove/ repair " pop up during disk install that finally brought up the Key Code entry form but I don't. All I can say is that it finally worked ! C:( WHATEVER YOU DO BE SURE TO DOWNLOAD SP 1 & 2 AFTER THE MSFS INSTALL IS COMPLETE ! If you don't you will probably get that error message and be caught in the 30 minute " trial l" loop . Keep in mind this type of issue may well only occur in instances where you are trying to reinstall FSX to a windows 10 " Re-install " or perhaps on a windows 10 that never had FSX installed from the beginning. As you might surmise non of this is complex computer wizardry because if it were I wouldn't be telling it but it sure was confusing and exasperating to solve :) Oh and one more thing : I uninstalled Norton Virus scan and from what I have read the Edge Security is on par now with Norton. Norton has piled on so many promotions , Scans , updates and addons its eating up to much time.
  5. Its been a long time since I last posted on the FSX forum. Since selling my Cessna 150 n150ew about 10 years ago after accumulating about 800 hours of real flight time. I retired from active flying and have been flying MSFSX ever since . Its the closest a pilot can come to the challenge of real flight ( other than perhaps MSFS 2020 ) I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in realistic pilot training. Unfortunately my computer crashed and I was forced to reinstall windows 10 from the cloud. In the process MSFS was uninstalled . When I attempted to reinstall my original Disk 1 and Disk 2 disk #2 failed to download and everything I tried failed. As a matter of fact I cant even uninstall what files I did download because that fails as well.! Now I'm not a computer geek ( I mean that in a good way) and at 78 yo I never will be :( I have done a lot of searching for solutions but I find the solutions that people in various forums have generously offered to others with similar( but not identical ) problems far exceed my ability. All of them by the way were just helpful " possible solutions". It appears as though once you uninstall FSX various factors make it almost impossible for the average computer user like myself to successfully reinstall it. I had pretty much limited my flying to single and dual engine planes that I had flown or co piloted in real life . Sadly I was on a long around the world northern hemisphere flight in the beech King Air 300 when my computer crashed . I had made it as far as Nagasaki Japan and was using google earth to find suitable runways to land in Russia and hopefully have the range to make the hop across the straits to Alaska then back down the States and then to KLEW Maine where I started and my home field . The complexity involved with trying steam addition ( especially when I cant even remove old files to have a clean slate ) pretty much eliminates any further flying for me . Got to find some young aviation enthusiast locally who could use a Saitec yoke , rudder pedals and throttle control I guess :) So to those of you who some 10 years ago were generous with your help when I first started using FSX thank you and happy flying Kent
  6. Thanks top gun . You made it as clear as it can be kent
  7. It suddenly occurred to me that should somthing go wrong with my present computor , ( It has The MSFS X Deluxe edition installed on it) How would I be able to install the FSX DVD discs into any new computor that I purchased to replace it?? Unlike MSFS editon #4 which required a disk always be in the drive , The MSFS X deluxe DVD package has a product key that prevents the package from being downloaded into a second computor . If I try to install it in the new computor its my understanding that Microsoft will show the DVD Product key in thier data base and see it as a violation of thier product agreement and block it from being used again. My understanding is that it can be used on a second computor ( I think ) but only if it has been UNINSTALLED from the first computor ? ) The problem with that is if your first computor dies on you its doubtful if you can access it to uninstall it from the bad computor ? I cant seem to find a clear explanation of how to properly and successfully load the FSX DVD a second time . Any helpful ideas would be appreciated thanks Kent Washburn RT pilot and longtime user of MSFS
