  1. About two weeks ago Nvidia dropped their 551.52 drivers and I downloaded it. Normally I ignore the latest driver prompts in GeForce Experience, but I always at least look up the user experiences of the latest drivers on a popular tech forum. For these, I read where several reported big power and temp drops around larger three cooler GPUs like mine. Okay, well why not give them a go? I did so and could not believe my eyes or hand behind the computer not feeling as much heat out the back! The screenshot I took shows GPU % utilization where it should be (in these case approaching a cloud layer while on a final IFR approach in the CJ4): around 75-80%. However, the remarkable thing is the massive drop in GPU wattage use as well as temps to 170-180W and 45-50C. Normally in this case I'd be at 280+ watts in GPU power consumption as well as in the 60s in C temps. And that would be with a 70% fan curve setting at max use. Now, I can dial that back to 55%. I do not know what Nvidia has done, but I'd be curious to know other's experiences if they've upgraded (there has since been 551.61 released). This is good news as we head into the warmer months. And I can also confirm after two weeks of use, I have a slight but noticeable power bill consumption drop in the daily use monitor in the hours I'm simming.
  2. Just finished a 2hr flight in the Longitude and no major issues even with a lot of aftermarket add-ons (I forgot to remove them before update). Download took about 15 minutes, but I did notice the Mb/s transfer speed bounced around all over the place, from about a peak of 350Mb/s to as slow as 2Mb/s (on a 900Mb/s network). Anyway one thing I appreciate like Budreiser stated is the more realistic ATC approval to the next altitude clearance. Before it was at 250 feet to go before ATC gave clearance. Climbing out at 2,000+ FPM would bust through that in seconds if not cleared beforehand. What we'd have to do is just slow our climb rate getting closer to that 250' clearance (and hopefully, otherwise if busy you had to park it at the last assigned altitude until your turn for clearance...and slow down to keep from overspeeding at climb power). Now there's generally enough time for ATC to get to you for the next altitude clearance while still maintaining your consistent climb profile - even in busy ATC comms airspace. More like in the real world. Unfortunately that is not reciprocated during descent for some reason.
  3. I powered up the Longitude with your Chicago-Pittsburgh plan IFR. Sure enough that MANSEQ discontinuity showed up in the flight computer and on the map. I simply cleared it and as you can see the next waypoint joined up. As Tim said the other day in your original post, you can also just request direct to the next waypoint from ATC and then duplicate it in the flight computer without having to do anything about MANSEQ (or DISCONTINUITY in the CJ4). Keep in mind I am controlling the flight plan waypoints by the avionics in the aircraft first which will translate to the map when sorted out either on the ground or once in the air and going direct to the next waypoint. The ATC is not "in tune" with the flight planner and it will never tie in that broken waypoint link even if you get clearance to the next waypoint (you'll have to manually request it). The bottom line is that you have to manually change the aircraft's flight computer one way or the other to ensure waypoint plan continuity for the autopilot (choose direct to the next waypoint, or delete the MANSEQ/discontinuity in the flight computer). I don't fly the heavies but this is how I successfully fly both Citations, the turboprops, and GA pistons. The holding pattern is in the aircraft's flight computer automatically for a go-around/missed approach. That can also be deleted out in the waypoints after the last regular plan waypoint which should be the runway you are scheduled to land on (which can change enroute as in the real world). Hope this helps at least a little!
  4. @budreiser - I just did a flight (IFR filed) in the CJ4 from Atlanta (KPDK) to Vail CO (KEGE). No discontinuity gap issues in waypoints other than the ones I cleaned up in the FMS as previously described. What shows up in the flight computer flight plan (legs) with the waypoints? There's got to be a reason for the broken flight plans. On another topic, I broke my own rule and updated my Nvidia driver to the latest from running the same one since May 2022. No issues - no performance gain, no drop either. However, I have noticed my RTX 3080 Ti is running about 2C cooler under load in the sim since the upgrade for whatever reason. I upgraded through the GeForce Experience app with a clean wipe out and install FYI.
  5. That MANSEQ route discontinuity has always been there in the Garmins. In the CJ4 Collins FMS, the discontinuity (means ATC vectors will be given to the next point) is actually spelled just that in the legs menu. Since MSFS is not real world in ATC instructions of course, I just delete them. For the Garmin, it's as simple as just deleting the MANSEQ waypoint, and then the route will line back up with the next waypoint. It's more involved with the CJ4 and there are two ways to handle it. I take the easier path and just click on the next waypoint below the "DISCONTINUITY" listing which pre-populates the scratch pad with that code. Then I click the line select item corresponding to that discontinuity waypoint and it replaces it (after clicking EXEC). Also as a side note, I have a tablet on the side to create my own IFR flight plan from low and high altitude charts just as I would in the real world along Victor airway intersections and waypoints. So I'll create the flight plan in the sim first, and from that I modify the aircraft's flight planner accordingly once powered up. That means deleting a lot of waypoints and adding others. The built-in flight planner in MSFS is often inefficient and mostly terrible! I also keep an eye on changing destination runway conditions with ADSBEX in real time and watch landing traffic patterns while enroute. Often the runway reported in use at the destination and programmed in the flight planner/flight computer is not going to be the same one upon arrival just like in the real world. This means making a lot of changes in the flight computer (changing the landing runway, changing the STAR if there is one, etc.).
  6. I installed it and am currently flying the Longitude on a 2hr hop. Full description here: https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/release-aircraft-avionics-update-02-1-33-8-0-now-available/597642 It did fuss at me for having an older Nvidia driver version and warning some things may not work, but so far no issues in case anyone sees that running older drivers (I'm one who is a believer in if it's not broken, do not fix it!). Oh and we still have to deal with that minor annoyance switch back to windowed mode after every update.
  7. Thanks Tim - I must have missed it. For those interested, here's the Cliff Notes of unknowns straight from them: Questions we don’t know right now: Are addons going to be compatible? How about addons people bought in the store? Will they transfer? Or do we have to buy them again? All the previous world updates and city updates, are they going to be avaliable in 2024? Whats going to happen to 2020? How long is it supported? When will they cut support? Is this going to fragmant the community between the two games? Will multiplayer work between them? What other features are going to be in this? Are all the updates and stuff from 2020 going to be put into 2024? Is this a brand new game? or is it built ontop of 2020? What does this mean for people making addons for 2020? Do they continue building planes for 2020?
  8. Yeah I just stumbled on it while on Youtube looking for airshow videos! I instantly came here to see if anyone was talking about it (no ranting and raving yet on the official MSFS forums). But there's just not enough info yet out for what it means to us MSFS adopters. I for one have many questions like: Will there be an updated graphics engine with an up to date global geography map? My estimate on the current MSFS map graphics is that it was taken from 2011-2012 satellite data. In a lot of areas in the US around outer metro city exurbs, the growth has been insane and landmark buildings are either no longer there and replaced, or in the case of suburban growth, what was rural farmland in 2012 is now full of suburban homes and shopping centers. You can go back in time on Googlemaps Earth Pro to check your area. Will the missions and challenges shown in the trailer only be available with the new sim? Will current MSFS users just only need to buy an update? In any event, I'll hold my tongue until further information is needed. I for one thought we'd be with MSFS/2020 well into 2030 while just dealing with the occasional updates.
  9. Their GOTY editions were released late November last year on both Steam/PC and XB editions for all three versions previously released (Standard, Deluxe, Premium Deluxe). Long story short, the GOTY editions just offered more aircraft, detailed airports, and I believe discovery flights than were available at the time prior to last November. Now of course you will have the GOTY edition with all of the World Updates since WU7 last November. It was just classic Microsoft marketing to try and get more buyers who had previously been sitting on the fence on a purchase. This link from that time frame last year of WU7 explains it: https://msfsaddons.com/2021/11/18/msfs-game-of-the-year-edition-is-now-available-along-with-sim-update-7/ I'd recommend checking out the official MSFS forums (https://forums.flightsimulator.com/) for information as a Steam forum for information is like going to a Reddit thread for a recipe on how to best cook a steak - it's a digital food fight, heh.
  10. I've had it almost exactly 1 year, having built my MSFS dedicated PC over Labor Day weekend last year and installing the sim. I made the mistake of buying the disc version (all 10 discs) and it was a bigger pain than just going to the MS store and downloading overnight. That said, I have had my complaints early on (random PC crashes and service updates breaking things), but the last six months or so all has been smooth through several updates. You are going to have complainers out there (and here specifically) who will just berate you and try and deflate you for whatever reason if you express that it works fine for you (some of us have been accused of working for Asobo). Do not listen to them. Get it and your life will never be the same. I still have my FSX rig and I'll never go back. Your rig looks great except I will say that unlike all previous versions, a powerful GPU really means something in MSFS unlike FSX and previous versions were it was more important to have a high clocked CPU. However, your monitor being a 1080p should not be much of a performance issue with that RTX 3060 unlike say if you wanted to run it at 4K (see a PC hardware test review from last year here: https://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/ms_flight_simulator_(2020)_the_2021_pc_graphics_performance_benchmark_review,6.html) Just get it!
  11. This is a known flaw of the Logitech FYS. You didn't win the lucky lottery of a true centering yoke. Neither did I. My cross is slightly to the right of center in the calibration tool. However, I have learned to make the best of it by just full cycling the yoke (prior to the sim launch) like a real world flight control check of elevator and ailerons. Eventually I'll get it to bounce back to center, or close enough I can't tell the difference, and then launch the sim and it's fine. I thought about returning it as defective and buying the Honeycomb, but at the time a year ago this month when I built my rig, they were back ordered everywhere. On top of that, this is a unit with a throttle quadrant so it would have had to go back too even though it is perfectly functional. Eventually I'll upgrade to a high end yoke and rudder/throttle system. Good luck. Edit: if you are still in your return window, you may want to do that and step up to the Honeycomb Alpha. You can buy the Logitech throttle quadrant separately and they do function together.
  12. I would hope that if you are wanting a 3080 Ti you have long term plans to upgrade your current 1080p monitor to at least QHD (1440p) or UHD (4K). The high end cards really don't "show up" until you crank up the resolution. I had a 1080 Ti in a older rig and used it as a baseline watermark for my 3080 Ti build last August. On a 1080p monitor there was only about 10FPS difference between the 1080 Ti and 3080 Ti (using the GeForce Experience app for monitoring). However, when I plugged in my 4K monitor, the performance spread was enormous with the 1080 Ti only performing at about half the frames of the 3080 Ti - something like mid-20s vs. low-50s. Note this was late last summer and there have been several MSFS updates for performance for lower end systems since, so I have no idea how that 1080 Ti will do now (I no longer own it to check). Most of my quality settings were on Ultra where it mattered in visual quality (not all graphics settings make a noticeable difference between Ultra and High). Below are two links from a tech website who last tested MSFS in March last year (they used a Ryzen 9 5950X processor). This gives a pretty good snapshot of what I experienced between GPUs and resolutions when testing last year. I am now solid G-synced at 60+ FPS after the last several service updates on the ground/low to the ground in heavy scenery. However heavy clouds and rain drops it into the 50s. 1080p: https://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/ms_flight_simulator_(2020)_the_2021_pc_graphics_performance_benchmark_review,6.html 4K: https://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/ms_flight_simulator_(2020)_the_2021_pc_graphics_performance_benchmark_review,8.html
  13. I hardly ever fly to the Northeast but I had a flight from Providence to Atlanta (KPVD-KATL) which routed us over Long Island NY. We were just off the coast westbound and I looked down from the right side and saw an interesting airport layout like a an upside down V from my perspective. Making a mental note, after I got home I started doing some digging. If you've ever wondered where the Grumman F-14 Tomcat was built, that was the place in Calverton. Hangar 6 is now in use by an aerospace company called Luminati which is making components for its solar powered sailplanes there. Years ago I remember seeing video on some F-14 documentary on History Channel of the F-14 development, and the first prototype crashing after losing hydraulics. The pilots ejected on approach to one of those runways just seconds before going into the trees. Multiple angles from both chase plane and ground head on shots. It's on Youtube under "F-14 Prototype Crash on 1970". In any event, here's the link to historic Grumman manufacturing photos at that facility dating back to the S-2 and F-11 Tiger up to the A-6 being built right alongside of the Tomcat. For the sharp eyed people, pics of the F-111B Navy variant can be seen in apparent ground testing which failed so bad for Naval carrier ops that the Tomcat was born. I found it interesting anyway, especially as Top Gun Maverick sets box office records: http://www.luminati.aero/historic-calverton
  14. Well that was the first thing I experimented with last year, going back to stock and even underclocking my CPU even though I had well broken the new build in with stress tests before installing the sim. It made no difference and still crashed. And again, the tell-tale sign for me at least is being able to spend half a day doing the long flight challenges for hours in stages with no crashes.
  15. Same thing continues to happen to me. Fortunately it usually happens within the first 10 minutes of flight after takeoff and I'm panning around in and out of the cockpit. However on a few occasions since I've had the sim last August and SU5 on initial install, I have flown for well over an hour and then panning around and it crashes. Just last week I was on approach to KPVD from KATL, about 1+45 enroute, then that infamous stutter and crash. It is certainly not tied to CH Products. I have the Logitech yoke (with CH Pedals). It is completely random. I can go a week without crashes and maybe 5 flights, then the next weekend get 2 crashes on back to back days. This never happens in challenge or discovery flights with fixed pre-programmed weather, nor does it happen with non-live weather free flights. I believe, and others out there as well who continue to experience CTDs even after all the updates over the past 12+ months, that it is tied to the live weather engine. Countless threads on the MSFS official forums on it. Live weather is the only common denominator even though we all have infinite different hardware setups, and I'm assuming you are using live weather. Asobo is looking into it as it continues after each update. For the record I always start the PC cold and dark before loading up MSFS and disable the antivirus (Kaspersky).
