  1. The update downloaded and installed without a problem once I left things alone. The lesson for me is not to disable online data and just let it update when it wants to. On start up the program disabled online weather due to low bandwidth. I will probably disable online traffic. I would rather not be dealing with the internet every time I run this.
  2. I found the controller settings to be able to use the hat switch on the CH yoke to look all around instead of switching between fixed view. I also have a button to switch between interior and exterior, and for the exterior view the hat switch also works to rotated all around. However, in doing this I lost the ability to pull up the various instrument views such as radio stack, electrical panel, or overhead panel. I have a rocker switch that is programmed for next/previous instrument view but it only zooms in or out from the pilots view. Anyone know how to set this up? Thanks.
  3. When I first started FS today it ran through a short update, 12 minutes, without me doing anything. Then it crashed every time. I went in to the data section and found I had disabled online data, so I reset it. After a couple of restarts it checked for updates, went to the MS store, and started a 7.59 GB download. So I'm down until tomorrow. I am hoping that this was just my mistake of turning off online data, because maybe it could not complete the download. This is a Steam version, but I think Steam just provides you with the installer, which goes to the MS store for the real download.
  4. The update started by itself (I thought I had automatic updates turned off). The sim now crashes to desktop after selecting the plane and airport and clicking Fly. I restarted the computer and tried different planes and airports. I didn't know anything about emptying the community folder. It only has the Grumman Goose. Hope someone knows how to fix this. Not sure if I want another 6 day download for a reinstall.
  5. Any luck on this? The links and a google search all seem to lead to the same source, and it is so full of pop ups and download buttons you can't tell which are legitimate. I tried a couple and got McAfee warnings not to proceed.
  6. Yes, some water effects would be nice. The real Icon can taxi between land and water, and there were some planes in FS9 that would do it, but that was then so I guess I will stop trying to do it. I'm trying to find the Grumman Goose right now and the links haven't been leading to a good download site.
  7. That must have been it. Somehow when I set up the buttons on the CH yoke I was lowering the flaps but the gear also lowered. Got it right now. Next problem is that I can't taxi from water onto land. Gear appears to be lowering but is buried in the ground. IJ lowered the gear well before reaching land. Maybe I am trying to do something it is not supposed to do.
  8. All I have is the Icon. Hoping someone will release the Beaver soon. You say you could land anywhere, I will check this again as one time I had the landing gear switch reverse but I thought I fixed it.
  9. So far I located floatplane bases at Lake Hood, Fairbanks, Kenai, and Ketchican in Alaska. These are real and you can land on them, but they do not show on the world map so I don't know yet how to set up a departure flight from them. Summit Lake is also a floatplane base but you get a crash if you land on it. Also the one at Ketchican is somewhere in the river and you get a crash if you are a little off. The way around all this is to disable crash damage, then you can land on water anywhere.
  10. I located Summit Lake and landed on it but got an immediate crash. It must be like the older flight sims where you had to convert the water to an invisible runway. They fixed it in fsx where you could land anywhere.
  11. Finally, I found the shut off valve. I think what happened is that I have my display set up for low vision and it seems to move the tool tips around and cut off parts of windows.
  12. I don't see any way to manually turn on the fuel valve in the 152 and the check list didn't do it, but alt-v turns it on and then the engine can be started.
  13. Found the fuel shut off valve after much difficulty. The 172 now starts. Still looking on the 152 (I flew a 150 that had the Continental engine).
  14. Esc appears to only cycle between the current flight and options. I wonder how to get back to the world map without exiting the sim and restarting.
  15. I just checked the 172 and could not start it except by ctrl-e. Fuel selector to all, fuel pump on, mixture control moves correctly. Didn't see a fuel primer.
