  1. Hi all, just a quick update! Getting weirder as I go. Now, if I use the mouse wheel ANYWHERE in the main FS screen to zoom (IE cockpit, or external view), the VFR map zooms with it regardless of where the map is. However, still no go on click/hold to move around the map unless it is on the same monitor as the main view. Edit: Even when the cockpit zoom reaches max in either direction, the map will continue to zoom. Will keep everyone posted if I get this working. :)
  2. Hi all, I have found limited info out there on my issues, but I can't seem to dig deep enough to find any resolution. I'm sorry if I missed something here on the forum, I do lurk to find solutions as much as I can before posting. FS2020 V 1.19.9.0 WIN10 V 21H1 Build 19043.1288 Out of nowhere I’m having problems on my second monitor with the VFR map, can’t zoom or scroll (second monitor only) but if I slide it over to my primary monitor everything works fine. Additional troubleshooting revealed that the map works only if it is overlaid on the main FS screen. So, for example if I move the main FS screen to the second monitor, then bring up the map on top, it works fine. If I then move the map only to the first monitor, leaving FS on the second, no go. So bottom line is that it seems the map quit recognizing a separate monitor on my system. Very odd as it started out of nowhere, I have rebooted and all of that now to no avail. I thought I’d post here and see if anybody has dealt with this? Thanks!
  3. Ha ha! You’re so right. I think I’m just getting too lazy to spend the time to see how I like things assigned, then duplicating across platforms. Now years ago I’d be on it man!!!! Mike
  4. Hi all! Now that I have the latest greatest controller with 8,419 buttons, knobs, twirly thingies, the kitchen sink and everything else, I wanted to get some opinions. Since I am using three flight simulators, (FS9, FSX, MSFS) - programming three sims gets a bit tiring. SO - - for controllers, do you prefer to learn the default programming, download someone else's template and learn theirs, or program your own? (I like my own, but still have to memorize it) Mike
  5. RE: Do you people ever FLY with 2020? Well, no. But I do sit at my computer and pretend to with MSFS, FSX, FS9, whatever strikes my mood that day. Sorry, everyone, I just had to...😂 Please don’t misunderstand, I do respect those of us that take their sims seriously.
  6. Thanks everyone - as usual great help from this forum, will experiment with that DX10. It appears then that acceleration is in fact in the sim as the fighters are installed. Never paid much attention since I use the big lazy stuff mostly. Took a fighter up this morning after reading your replies and they fly great. Yikes - soooooo F A S T especially compared to a lumbering Antonov!!! I suppose it may be possible that in theory the acceleration did not "install" from the DVD, but since I did copy my old FSX folder over maybe it came in that way? The old machine had WIN-7 (miss it sometimes). Happy flying! Mike
  7. Hi all, I has also posted this in another thread on stuttering issues. I wanted to get this part out here under it's own topic When I installed FSX originally on this PC I started by installing out of the box, (Gold deluxe version) then renamed the installs etc and copied my old FSX folder in from my old WIN-7 PC. I was reading out there in Google land so many mixed statements about the "acceleration" that I do not recall installing it, as seemed most stated not to. I do in fact have SP-2 installed though. My install is on a secondary SSD, H:/FSX Also, I have the "Preview DX-10" unchecked. Are either / both of these necessary? Sys specs in my signature. FSX runs great other than the occasional micro freezes. We went through just about everything regarding the occasional freezes here: https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?328681-Random-stuttering-every-few-seconds Thanks! Mike
  8. Hi all, answering my own posts here... When I installed FSX originally on this PC I started by installing out of the box, (Gold deluxe version) then renamed the installs etc and copied my old FSX folder in from my old WIN-7 PC. I was reading out there in Google land so many mixed statements about the "acceleration" that I do not recall installing it, as seemed most stated not to. I do in fact have SP-2 installed though. Also, I have the "Preview DX-10" unchecked. Any thoughts on the stuttering based on either of these? I don't want to damage things more by installing stuff that I shouldn't at this point. Thanks again, and you knew I would still be at it looking for the culprit LOL. System specs in my sig regarding this as well. Mike
  9. Latest update, and another THANK YOU to everyone. A bit of a long read but if anyone else is following to correct the same problem I am hoping to be as detailed as I can. longbreak754 - I went looking and did find that defrag setting set to automatic, it was hidden at first as I have "Defraggler" installed. Uninstalled, killed the automatic settings, re-installed. Checked Malwarebytes and Win defender for anything else I could think of. Still hiccups :( Today's test put me at a gate in LAX where I just sat there and let Ultimate Traffic inject planes etc. It was set to night so I had the sequenced runway lights in my view. Sure enough, every so often it would freeze. (In an earlier post I mentioned that I tried a similar test with Ultimate Traffic uninstalled to no avail) Flying at LAX caused no additional freezes but they were there. So no matter traffic / scenery density, or what plane. Side Note on Ultimate traffic - There is one guaranteed freeze up, which is when Ultimate traffic first injects traffic after boot up, it also happens in FS9, but I expect that. Today I started FSX and let it sit for about 10 minutes for aircraft to spawn, however the random freezes continue. I am convinced that this has something to do with AI, but that still contradicts my tests as when everything is off / uninstalled (UT) I still get the freezes occasionally. Also toyed with the FPS slider again, everything from 30 (1/2 my monitor refresh rate) to unlimited. Not much difference there in performance. Out in Google land there are many people in the same boat, errr, sim cockpit :) ; so this just might be a "just live with it" deal until I can spend some time perhaps installing out of the box just to see if default install does the same thing. For now if I want to enjoy FSX, I live with the limitations as I do in FS9. The new MSFS is installed as well and am on a learning curve with it, it really runs very well for me but I think I need a degree to use it LOL. Hence, FS9 and FSX for the fun of it all!! I'll be lurking and if I catch this freezer bug I'll share the fix... Thanks again everyone and Happy Flying Mike
  10. Wow so much help and great ideas, I cant thank everyone enough! At any rate I did note in watching this carefully just sitting on a runway that many of the quick freezes were when AI planes showed up with tail numbers etc. So I uninstalled (again) Ultimate traffic, same problem remains with default FSX AI. Next, shut off all AI. Still skipped. The only thing I have not done that was suggested is reinstall from scratch out of the box and just run it default to see if it still happens. So currently, after going through all the tweaks suggested here, including the "other site" manual, disabled all indexing and sysmain (which I found is the WIN 10 version of superfetch I believe) also snagged the nVidia profiler and applied the tweaks shown, I can say I am down to only occasional freezes, or dare I say - rare! So there is significant progress here! Again, thanks to everyone who jumped in and apologies again for hijacking the thread from the OP. But we are in the same situation I guess! If I nail these last occasional freezes I will post here. Seems like finding a minnow in the Atlantic ocean LOL Mike
  11. Thought I would check in, FWIW it was not my intent to hijack the OP's thread, I do appreciate the ideas and have tried a few... Skywatcher12 - Good idea of a test default install, even maybe installing right from my DVD set, but I do remember this stuttering on my old PC. Honestly this is the only program I have any issues with on this particular machine. (Specs are in my sig). I may end up trying that anyway someday down the road. jorgen.s.andersen - I have not overclocked, that may happen in the future though, I will look into it. That is unfamiliar territory for me. I did set up those suggestions in the tweak guide (Thanks!) Results - the stutters are fewer, more random, and quicker, as in it does not freeze for like a second, more like "flashes" now. I will find this and nail it! Next research is the nvidia card and settings on that end. My old PC had Nvidia graphics as well so maybe there is something there. Question - even though my FSX folder is on a separate SSD (H:\FSX), the FSX.CFG is buried down in C:\users\username etc. Should it be moved or is that the "mandatory" location? Thanks everyone! Mike
  12. Thanks guys, actually my install started off at C:\FSX (Also an SSD) and the stutters were there back then also. Mallcott - yes, tried all that, even uninstalled add on scenery, shut off Malwarebytes completely and disabled WIN defender, took the PC offline, let’s see... Oh, this happens regardless of the plane, whether stock or third party, GA or jumbo. I’ll find it! I do believe it is in Windows somewhere, as even the stock install from my DVD did it. Dell PC’s are notorious for bloatware as well, that is why I ran FSX with task manager open, there was a little app that would pop in to report system status stuff to Dell and it was causing hiccups, but I tracked it down, deleted it and the freezing in my system stopped. FSX is another matter LOL Mike
  13. You know, I am one of these “Leisure Pilots”, all the way back to FS98. While I still enjoy FS9 and FSX for the reasons mentioned by the OP, I too have found MSFS a challenge for long flights on autopilot etc., mostly I just turn off all the autopilot and autothrottle (etc) in MSFS and I can fly even the lumbering 747 VFR and have fun. Slowly, I am learning my way around the more realistic flight controls in MSFS as well. But it’s really all about the mood at the time I carve out some time to enjoy a sim, or other items on my PC, which is why FS9 and FSX are still sharing my game drive to this day. Mike
  14. I thought I would jump in this one, I too experience stuttering in FSX. My FS9 installs and msfs run great. Have tried all I can think that many here have advised to try, of which includes disabling Malwarebytes Bytes and WIN defender, shutting off network connections, adding to the exceptions in Malwarebytes and Windows defender, uninstalled FSUIPC, lowered sliders, disabled add on scenery, but alas still stutters. Frame rate experiments from 20 to unlimited have no effect as well. Recently I had Task Manger running in my second monitor to see if something would pop up like processor usage or something crazy but all remains steady. For reference my installs are on a secondary internal SSD, drive H:, IE H:\FSX and H:\FS9 Here is a possibility I am looking into - google search this for some info: Simple Stutters Fix for FSX I am not giving up the fight, if I ever get it figured out I certainly will post! Mike
  15. Just to update, I have no clue as to why, but a simple "cold" restart did the trick and all is well. As in, shut down, restart after 30 seconds. Thanks!
