    Sound is a part of flight experience that is sometimes overlooked, but it adds an important extra dimension to the realisim that we all seek. For nearly twenty years Aaron Swindle (Skysong Soundworks) has been supplying the flight simulator community with improved sounds. In this article he discusses various aspects of audio and how it applies to flight simulation, from the early days of basic loops to the complex sounds cones of today.

    Review: Orbx EGSG Stapleford Aerodrome

    EGSG Stapleford Aerodrome is a busy general airfield not far from London. Orbx has recreated it for X-Plane with their usual high level of detail. Reviewer Bruno Esperanca was pleased with the results and says he would easily recommend this scenery.

    Freeware Focus: Ford Tri-Motor Project

    After trying, over the years, all the flight simulators from FS2000 to Prepar3D, Robin Meyerowitz found that immersion is more important than realism and that FS2004 suited that need for him. To aid that, he discovered the Ford Tri-Motor Project put together by Garry J. Smith and Edward C. Moore. As he describes, the project is even more than just the history of the famous Tri-Motor but provides a variety of period resources to aid in that flightsim immersion.

    FlightGear - Visiting the ISS

    FlightGear breaks the boundaries of what a flight simulator can do by actually allowing travel into space. In this tutorial, Thorsten Renk describes how the Space Shuttle is flown to the ISS (International Space Station). The FlightGear Space Shuttle is still a work in progress, but much has been put into it to allow for a realistic rendezvous experience.

    Otavio Bonomi Developer Interview

    Otavio Bonomi is a scenery developer who creates for FSX, Prepar3D and X-Plane. Like many scenery designers, he got started because an area he was interested in needed doing but he's since found sharing his scenery very rewarding.     PropStrike Studio - Cessna 172 Bush Kit

    PropStrike Studio announces the release of a free Cessna 172 Bush Kit for X-Plane 11. Based on the stories from Ken Myles, a real world Quatam Airport bush pilot, the result is an old school workhorse C172 with retro liveries, and old and worn cockpit but also a retrofitted Garmin Angle of Attack indicator that's useful for getting into tight runways.

    HiFi Posts Updates

    ShortFinal Design Previews SFD Global

    ShortFinal Design has released a preview of their upcoming SFD Global for X-Plane. SFD Global will replace the default autogen objects with new objects specific to the region, offering better detail and a more realistic regional look to autogen scenery.

    Airwego - Announcing Heathrow Arrivals

    The Airwego Group, a British virtual airline that has historically concentrated on regional airports, announces that it is expanding to include London Heathrow. Initially only cargo operations will be included but if successful it can expand to include passenger flights as well.

    Vertical-Simulations Announces KISP Scenery

    Vertical-Simulations has announced that their next flight simulator scenery add-on will be KISP - Long Island MacArthur Airport for X-Plane. Though shown without full textures, the screen shots indicate a nicely detailed airport in the works. It will be accurate to 2019 with autogate, color corrected ortho, accurate tree placement, PBR materials and many more features.
