FS2004 Scenery--Pickle Lake CYPL in Ontario Canada. This scenery is of Pickle Lake in northern Ontario in 2010, approximately. At that time, and until now in fact, Pickle Lake was the northernmost point in Ontario that could be accessed from the south by an all-weather-year-round road, and as a result it served as the start of an aerial supply route to the small settlements in north Ontario. Most of the settlements could also be accessed by ice roads in the winter, but for only a limited period of the year. The population of Pickle Creek was (and still is) under 500 and the main occupation is the business of transportation to the Northern First Nations, followed by tourism in the wilderness promoted as the "Last Frontier". Pickle Lake has an airport with a lit asphalt runway just over 4,900 long, aligned 09-27 and with PAPI at both ends. The main cargo transport airline based at the airport is North Star Air, who also run regular and charter passenger flights. One specialist transport plane is a DC3 with turboprop engines that carries heating fuel for use in the winter and for year-round electricity generation. Unfortunately I have had to make do with an unmodified DC3 that is at least approximately the right colour. Wasaya Airways has a base there too and operates regular and charter flights to the north and to the south; their HQ is in Thunder Bay with hubs in Sioux Lookout and Red Lake as well as Pickle Lake. Other smaller companies also operate cargo flights to the north, with most of the cargo being transferred to planes from trucks at the western end of the airport where there is a cargo handling warehouse. This is the first of around 20 in northwest Ontario. The majority are better described as airfields as opposed to airports, with gravel runways and aprons and limited facilities; for instance they do not have aircraft fuel available for sale. The AI is for all of the 20 posts, and you can see from that the airfields involved. I suggest you just add the later posts to this first one, and perhaps change the Pickle Lake CYPL name to "Northwest Ontario" or whatever else takes your fancy. This means only one library post and no duplicated textures as this post includes the majority of the textures that are required for all of the airfields, not just Pickle Lake. There will be updates to two of my previous posts, Sioux Lookout and Red Lake. Some of the posts modify the earlier northwest Ontario scenery (by someone whose name I forget, and his scenery does not seem to be on flightsim now) where I have made a more accurate layout and related buildings from recent information. Included here is a screenshot from my installation showing the bgl's that need to be removed from the Northwest Ontario scenery to avoid clashes, if you already have that scenery (I think from 2004 or 2005?). If you find an error email me please. By Roger Wensley.
