MSFS Sim Update 10 Slated For Next Week

The full release of Sim Update 10 is on its way, slated for next week! While we are pinpointing the exact day of release, our team is currently adding in our final changes and updates for SU10. Beta users can expect one final test build coming shortly. We have also been closely working with NVIDIA regarding our DX12 optimizations and we plan to release SU10 in conjunction with an NVIDIA driver update that will help one of the first issues our Beta users discovered (graphical glitches and artifacts).

It’s been incredibly helpful to have so many community members test Beta builds with us, so thank you for everything. We are excited for this release and looking forward to what’s next – World Update 11: Canada, and the 40th Anniversary Edition (Sim Update 11)! You will find an updated Development Roadmap below.

A newbie question. Do I need to have Xbox on my computer to use MSFS 2020? I am not a gamer, I only want to use MSFS. I am trying to buy the standard program but all I can find is the Xbox version. Thanks

From my personal experience, purchasing MSFS from Microsoft/XBox directly has been nothing but trouble, resulting in repeated failed install attempts and installations that will not run correctly (and this was on multiple computers). I purchased a second copy of MSFS2020 from Steam and have been much happier. Installs are painless, they run correctly, and updates and purchases have been trouble-free. You can purchase any version of MSFS2020 from Steam, including the Standard Edition.

Its about time. Hope its worth the wait, and from what I hear it should be. Let's try to get on a more regular schedule will you guys?

A regular schedule is impossible because of obvious reasons. Some SUs will naturally be bigger than others and take longer to develop. Some SUs will address more complex issues or features and will take longer to develop. Sometimes it's summer and much of the team is on vacation so things will take a bit longer to develop. Well, you get the idea...

With flight sims, it has always been necessary to have lots and lots of patience because of the complex nature of things. It is not really realistic or reasonable to expect these devs to churn out those updates on a regular schedule. And if they did and if the SUs would be broken then people would complain endlessly about the bugs and how the devs should rather take their time and do the updates right.

Personally, I want them to take as much time as it needs for a quality update. History has shown that most SUs are not perfect out of the box so rushing them can only do more harm than good. Quality > schedule. Always.

Exactly. In the case of SU10, beta testers found more breaks and that was why it was delayed. Asobo has learned a lot from the disasters of previous SUs, not the least of which is working with third party developers to ensure nothing breaks. The old saying still goes: “You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time”.

I bought it through the Microsoft Store, and I have had no issues with it what so ever. I recommend putting it on an SSD of considerable size, however, it will run of an HDD reasonably well. But to answer your main question, you don't have to have Xbox on your computer.

In case you hadn't noticed, they were on a regular schedule of every 2 months with the updates, but this was leading to a lot of issues, so now they are moving to every 3 months instead of every 2 months.
