    MSFS 2020 November 18th, 2021 Development Update

    There isn't really much news that we haven't already covered in this latest update from Microsoft, but here it is anyway:

    November 18th, 2021 Development Update - Microsoft Flight Simulator

    We are thrilled to release the Microsoft Flight Simulator Game of the Year Edition as a "thank you" to our fans who have made the sim such a phenomenon.

    A big shout out and thank you to The Game Awards for nominating Microsoft Flight Simulator once again in the Best Sim/Strategy Game category! We are beyond honored for this recognition and are excited to be amongst so many other amazing games this year.

    SDK Update

    General

    • We spotted issues on the Sim Update 7 that couldn't be fixed in time. Even though they are fixed now, you may encounter them, so here is a list of known problems:
      • PaintedHatchedAreas make the sim crash.
      • Null-size flags file in your package sources may cause invalid materials (pink aircraft). Delete them to solve the issue.
      • glTF errors may prevent you from building your aircraft when using some Blender exporters.
      • The aircraft control is lost when the Aircraft Editor is open. Closing the editor will restore controls.

    Dev Mode

    • We now ignore null-size flags file, to avoid invalid materials which result in pink aircraft.
    • Creating a project with special characters (e.g. accents) in the project's path no longer causes a crash.
    • Scenery Editor:
      • We fixed a crash that could happen when trying to add a CarParking to the scene.
      • We fixed a crash that could happen when trying to add a PaintedHatchedArea.
      • We had an error "Parking not linked to the main graph" that prevented you from saving your scenery. We downgraded it to a "warning" only so that you can still build your package. However if your parking have has a weird appearance, linking them to the main graph will solve the issue.
      • We fixed an infinite loading after a restart when an airport has an invalid preset light.
    • Visual Effects Editor:
      • We now allow spawning VFXs on SimObjects without setting any node or any contact point. VFX will be attached to the root node of the object.
    • Aircraft Editor:
      • We fixed the interactions with the sim that were disabled when the Aircraft Editor is open.

      If you guys keep "stitching" the code like a worm eating an apple you'll end up with a Spagetti bowl of code which will continue to cause errors all over the place....Guys you lost it!!!

      TrackIR is now broken. I spent a year away from this sim waiting for it to mature, flew for a couple of hours without serious issues, then… bam. Update 7. Grounded again. Every time I touch this sim, it’s hours and hours of pain. Controllers that aren’t supported, commands that don’t work… it’s amazing what money can’t buy.

      It is not broken. You just have to make a new key bind to turn it on and off in the sim. I mapped it to the same button that I use to pause it in the TrackIR software itself. Works great for me. I was flying the F/A-18E all over the place with full head tracking. Just because you don't understand the problem doesn't mean the sim is bad, it's just your understanding of the changes they made. I'll admit it too me a few minutes to make the new binds for the F/A-18 but after I did I was right back in the virtual skies.

      You find that every time they make an update and breck things is OK?....you sure must be from Mars!!!!, since you know so much why not open a MSFS 2020 Fix All Shop website....

      You need to go here and explain why this is not a problem. Currently 313 posts and 491 votes.

      And, your solution doesn’t work. I use the TIR pause function to zoom in, focus on, and operate controls in the cockpit. Your workaround doesn’t let me do that. It pops the view to standard straight ahead, which defeats the purpose.

      Friendly suggestion, maybe refrain from insults when you post.

      The online VA I fly with uses smartCARS to connect so my flights are graded and logged. Now with this recent update the app will no longer connect to MSFS. I uninstalled all the requirements and reinstalled them and it still will not work. I'm glad FSX and X-plane 11 still work.

      My solution DOES work because I use it. You have to have the buttons synced. If TIR is not paused when you set it up, and you are using the same button for both TIR and MSFS, then you press it, it TURNS OFF head tracking in MSFS and UNPAUSES TIR, effectively, doing nothing but looking straight ahead. Now, since you can't figure this out on your own, try mapping the Head Track Toggle in MSFS to another button on your controller or keyboard, toggle it on, then look where you want, then pause TIR, and I bet you can look at your panel all you want. Oh, and thanks for the friendly reminder, I'll be sure to ignore it, since it was unsolicited.
