    Microsoft Flight Simulator Team Q&A

Yesterday the team at Microsoft and Asobo spent time on Twitch answering questions from the community regarding the development of the sim:

    https://www.twitch.tv/msfsofficial

Quite a lot of topics were covered, including further updates, and current bugs, and for anyone having issues with the sim, or just generally interesting in the way Microsoft Flight Simulator is progressing, it makes for an interesting watch.

These guys are ridiculous, if you read along the forums, many people have real big problems with downloads, every update is a hassle and some even report weeks downloading the game. Some Updates couse many problems in the game too, But, these jokers don't even touch the topic which is really detrimental. Really dislike hearing these guys. This Sim needed at least One More Year of inhouse programming before going in the market and they know it. We, who paid for a half baked cake are telling them the bugs so they can go and fix them, totally irresponsible and fraudulent. If they would have said that the game had many bugs, many, many and we bought it anyway Fine but they put this thing out as if it was Finished which is not and will take many many many more trouble filled updates to become a finished product.......

I agree wholeheartedly with sky44. Last August I bought all the hype and took the plunge well aware of the "Microsoft Flight" fiasco from 10 years ago. I've just finished my 3rd full download because of some hiccup with the 1.14.5.0 update. I wasted a lot of hours doing my best to comb through customer blogs and published Asobo suggestions to no avail. Not all of us have unlimited monthly bandwidth allocation and unlimited time available to get this sim working at least until the next mandatory update. For me every extra 100GB is 10 dollars. And I'll be paying that extra for this month. We all paid for the privilege of becoming beta testers. These updates sometimes mess up what I had considered to be well-done scenery. e.g.- Somehow the night lighting, which had been spot-on, has been made to look artificial. Now everywhere at night reminds me of the outskirts of Las Vegas, NV.

That being said, overall the scenery is fantastic. But the scenery is only a part of what constitutes a well engineered flight simulator. Most of us have come to expect more since the early 1990's. At this time I just can't abide so-so aircraft, problematic weather generation, laughable ATC verbiage, and the specter of the next mandatory update hanging over my head. It kills the enjoyment. They should know THIS . . . the flight sim community does not want to take 2 steps backward.

While I sympathise with sky44, I have a simpler view. Do I enjoy using it? And I do, I really do. I tried going back to P3DV5 and I realised that I didn't enjoy it as much. For me the quality and realism of the graphics is a real win.

Now I appreciate that for others it's the flight model or other aspects of flight simulation (and I agree MSFS still has significant stability issues). And that will drive interest in, and sales of, competing flight simulators which has got to be a good thing.

Lockheed is not in the simulation business to kick anyone's ass, except maybe our country's enemies through military training and combat simulation. They are not servicing the hobby world except by permitting their product to be used that way, often despite the details of their licensing agreement with MS.

If it suits them to come up with an equivalent to 2020 because the Army or the Air Force wants it, they will. Of course, MS could do that too, if in fact they had a finished product, which brings us back to the original post!!

What a lot of NEGATIVE comments, there is basically nothing wrong with F2020, they will rectify the existing problems and scenery makes up for some problems experienced at present, I can live with it. What a great Flight Simulator 2020 is turning out to be.

Not so, I have wasted two weeks trying to load and update msfs2020, and am still jumping through more hoops than a circus act. All in all, I have two hours flying and two weeks trying to get this broken game running at all.
