    Aerosoft CRJ for MSFS 2020

    Dear FlightSim Community,

We feel the expectation on us to give official information about the release of the Aerosoft CRJ 550/700 for the Microsoft Flight Simulator.

In this regard we have a concern and we’ll keep it short: We made a really tough decision to postpone the CRJ release into the first quarter of next year. This decision wasn't easy for us, because we know how much anticipation there is in the community for this add-on.

We have decided to do so, because we want to deliver a CRJ that meets all expectations, but we have not reached this level yet. We need more time for the development and beta testing. We hope the additional time allows us to complete the necessary work to provide the highest quality and the best possible experience for you right from the start.

We therefore hope for your understanding. However, we do have a little present for you. The first official teaser:

I really wish you would stop calling it MSFS 2020. That's not what it is called. It's Microsoft Flight Simulator or MSFS.

Interesting subject, I think as there is a FS2004 then FSX why not then simply FS2020?

While I agree with you that "Microsoft Flight Simulator" is the official name, I've found through experience that if I call it just "MSFS" that some people confuse it with earlier versions, since the term MSFS has been in use for many years, long before the 2020 version came out. There's no easy solution here since Microsoft failed to give their new product a truly unique name.

Because, FS2004 and FSX were the official titles, where as "FS2020" is a colloquialism that has been assigned to it by people that are too stupid to know better, to pander to their idiotic followers on "(anti)social media". "Nothing spreads faster than rumor, and nothing dies faster than the truth."

But Asobo ~has put out what they feel is the appropriate abbreviation themselves, and do continue to not use it is to propagate ignorance. Yes, MSFS has been used for a number of years but, more often it was FS5, FS8, FS9, to keep it as simple as possible. FS2000, FS2002, and FS2004, all had official years in their title yet were more often referred to the order they cam out. So, if you really wanted to shorten it to something keeping in line with the hobby, then wouldn't FS11, then be the more logical choice? After all it's shorter than FS2020, and more correct in the grand scheme. I do not pander to the masses. Never have, never will. As for no easy solution: Just stop using FS2020 on your website, and that will make HUGE inroads to fixing the problem. You can't fix an issue by continuing to spread false information.

Back to the original article, I feel Aerosoft should be congratulated on resisting the temptation to release their product (and hence start earning money) until all/most of the bugs have been ironed out.

It's a shame all software developers (you know who you are!) don't follow suit.

^^That! I've (we've) been burned so many times over so many years between PC and console game releases that were broken and still in beta, only to have patches given weeks and months after (or in the case of Batman Arkham Knight on PC, over a year before it was fully fixed). But one has to wonder: is Aerosoft struggling because MSFS is still broken? The only good news for those of us who have not bought it yet and have not built a new PC yet is that we still can't find Nvidia RTX 3000 and AMD RX 6000 series cards in stock. Maybe by spring this year we'll have a fully functioning MSFS and be able to find current generation GPUs in stock.

Agreed. There are too many planes that are getting broken due to updates to the base simulator. I for one am glad that Aerosoft as well as A2A are not jumping out there too early and just throwing stuff out to make a quick buck. That said, I am highly disappointed that I still have to wait another year for helicopters to be implemented. That recent announcement has made me shelve though not uninstall MSFS, and returning to DCS where there are helicopters, and planes that are truly study level(note I hold A2A in the highest regard for their systems and flight dynamic modeling and there are no finer GA planes or warbirds for FSX/P3D). I uninstalled P3Dv3.4 from my system back when MS/Asobo announced the release of the MSFS. In MSFS I just can not bring myself to pay the prices that Carenado is asking for what is basically just a cookie cutter aircraft with no real differences from the base simulator's included airplanes. I have bought scenery though for my local area(Tampa/St.Pete) as this was something that was and still is lacking in the simulator. If you think that I am being petty here, I am not. Asobo/MS has said they were working on it for about 5 years before they announced it, and that is very apparent in the photogrammetry they used, as it is all about 5 years old. There are whole neighborhoods that are missing, and roads that have been built/re-routed that are not correct. Don't get me wrong, I see the great potential in the simulator but that potential will only be truly realized if it gets opened to 3rd party development sooner rather than later. Asobo seems to be all about that but there are still parts that have not been open to developers. A2A for example, in FSX/P3D used an external module that completely shut off the in simulator flight engine and injected their own. Thus far this kind of access has been denied, and it was the same denial of access that prevented A2A from going to XPlane.
