I wonder if the sim won't load after the update if it was in Developer Mode before the update?
I've never used Dev Mode and the update went smoothly for me.

No it was in the regular mode last time I closed it out.
I've deleted it from my drive and asked for a refund.
I simply don't have the time to spend on this circus any longer.

The CTD's are being caused by USB adapters and certain USB controllers. Unplug your adapters/controllers one by one and relaunch the sim to find the cause.

To late now.....I need Asobo to stabilize this thing before I mess
      with it any more.

Thanks for the heads up though!

After the Japan update FS2020 will no longer log my flights. Anyone out there having the same problem, or know of a fix for this. There seems to be a lot of problems with FS2020 since it's release. To bad the so called professionals did not get everything right in the first place.

Some guys on other forums report a change in their aircraft behaviour as well, related to controller sensitivities. I can't figure out whether the update changed their joystick settings or the aircraft cfg files. But in any case, I think it may be prudent to backup your settings before doing the update.

Another big blow with the new update is how it has broken third party aircraft. Carenado Mooney, Iris Jabiru, BlackBox Bird Dog... ALL are impacted negatively. In some cases, doors and windows will not open because their click points have gone. Buttons and switches have been re-mapped, livery selection issues are reported. Both Iris and BlackBox have said in the MS forum that they'll have to wait for a fix from ASOBO over this "update".

We are dealing with a watershed moment in MSFS. If Asobo does not stop breaking things with every fix, the third party industry for this platform will grind to a halt. The length of time the halt remains will depend on how long it takes for Asobo to stabilize their ongoing paid-for beta program. When the sim stabilizes into something dependable, and the SDK is complete, only then will developers and users be certain that this "Russian roulette" experience is over.

Time to write another Kerrspective I think!

it definitely changed my joystick settings for the worse. almost no control after update. plane would roll dive or climb with the slightest use of the controls and impossible to regain control thereafter.

I don't know what they've done with joystick sensitivities, but that feature seems all but unusable now. My Savage Cub is unflyable. If anyone has any ideas, please let us know.
      Many Thanks.

I didn't know anything about this new update before now, but when I tried to fly today my game did not load. It does not CTD, but I get a message:"GAME UPDATE AVAILABLE: A new mandatory update is available. Please update Microsoft Flight Simulator in the Microsoft Store before launching." Not to be overly verbose, but since I'm having so much trouble understanding this whole new software model (can I please just have my disks back?), I'm not making any assumptions about what other people know that I don't.

When I click "OK" in the game message window, the game closes and the store website opens. It identifies the game as installed on my system, and there is a PLAY button, but I don't see anything about an update. Clicking that button takes me back to the game, and the "there is an update" message. Back to the store, when I click on the "..." next to the play button, there is an option to download updates, so I click on that. I get a message "Pending", but nothing happens. There was an arrow in a box that indicated "download now" when I hovered over it, so I click that. A message comes up "This product is installed". There is a PLAY button. Clicking that button takes me back to the game, and the "there is an update" message. Repeat, hoping something changes (isn't that what they call insanity?)
Anyway, I'll try unplugging all my USB devices and see if that helps the game load. In the meantime, I'm open to any other suggestions.

PS. Installed on a newer Windows 10 PC, using a Honeycomb Alpha yoke, and CH Products pedals and throttle. The pedals and throttle are connected via an older powered USB hub; the Honeycomb was not compatible with the hub. I'll be looking for a new USB hub when Honeycomb gets more throttles and pedals.

Anyone else having the problem where FS doesn't launch, but identifies a mandatory update on the microsoft store, and then fails to download anything? End result: Can't launch the game.

Problem with that is, if you've by now got many hours of flight time logged but suddenly a version update breaks it, neither Steam nor MS Store for those who bought it there are likely to entertain the request. Steam already seem to have reverted to their standard policy following the latitude extended immediately after launch.

This. Exactly why I gave up on using 3rd party mods in ATS and ETS2 (especially Promods). The core game is constructed or updated in such a way that mods need an overhaul to work again. Extend this to when we start getting third party aircraft including expensive study level kit which has to await a patch each time Asobo do an update, or worse the developer throws the towel in... A hassle I can live quite nicely without, thank you very much.

      Hey Kenneth,
You put it so very well. We simply cannot move forward with add on's until this thing is stable.
      Very frustrating!

As a general rule, I wait at least a couple weeks before installing updates if I have a choice... but when you are not given the choice, and the update itself doesn’t work (won’t download or anything), that marks the pinnacle of development dysfunction. When an expensive program stops functioning because of a forced update, there is seriously something wrong with the developer’s process. It all goes back to the last minute announcement that the release was moved up several months. Clearly, that was a business decision, not one made by the development team. And we fell for it, hook, line, and sinker, like we always do... I’m willing to wait for them to fix this mess, because I’m invested in it and I don’t believe the refund department will care about this train wreck of a release going south. Just like the X-Plane store doesn’t issue refunds if it takes longer than a month for you to try -and give up trying- to fix the broken products they sell. It’s business. This is the new -and widely accepted- business model for software development now. Cry all you want, and ask for your refunds. It won’t change anything, and you will find yourself left behind.
