VFR Flight Around Queenstown, New Zealand

    by MrYorkiesWorld

In today's subscriber-requested video, we're taking a short VFR flight around Queenstown, New Zealand in the Cessna 172, before checking out some of the gorgeous scenery up close and personal via the drone camera!

I did make a slight mistake in commentary at the beginning of this video by referring to Queenstown as an Australian town, rather than being in New Zealand - it's been a long day--apologies!

Thanks very much for taking the time to provide this balanced information to the community. Those who listen carefully and pay particular attention to the specs and settings you have provided will have a great deal to think about in terms of what they can expect from MSFS.

I have an i7-9700k, RTX 2080, 16GB of RAM and an HP Reverb. I will be holding off my purchase until VR is available--provided performance substantially improves by then. Those of us who use VR know how stutters can utterly ruin the experience.

Many of us will remember how long after release it took for FSX to become usable in 2006 not to mention the "MS Flight" experience of 2012 i.e. how it was promoted versus what was delivered and how long it lasted. I think it only prudent to wait a while.

As an X Plane 11 user I was very interested to hear the description of the amazing scenery in MSFS. MSFS scenery is definitely superior to the basic X Plane but is markedly inferior when it comes to airfields as X plane has a huge selection of superb fields both large and small. There is also a large selection of excellent scenery (much of it free) for optional installation.
I flew the very same route from Queenstown on the optional X Plane New Zealand scenery which includes a vastly superior Queenstown Airport as well as Glenorchy airfield and was markedly superior to MSFS in all areas apart from reflections.
My main interest is in VFR flight while the areas such as ease of operation and flight planning are probably better on MSFS you have not persuaded me to change. I have no doubt that MSFS will keep X Plane on its toes so thanks for saving me a significant expense!

LittleNavMap does indeed work in MSFS It automatically detects the sim via SimConnect (or at least it did in my case!) so it's pretty easy to set up, and a really useful tool to have

Watching this preview video I noticed:
Nice to have a sim that has all the ortho already installed and the autogen looks very good.
A couple things showed up which might need fixing.
      - many mesh break seams as the mesh adjusts, disliked the mesh popping in as the flight progressed.
      - water shoreline creep
      - saw some floating objects.
      - very short LOD radius so just ortho with no trees and buildings....this I found annoying.
      - studders

      Nothings perfect (yet)
