What Settings Do I Use in the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 Preview Build?

    By MrYorkiesWorld

Today's short video will be showing off the settings that I currently use in the preview build of Microsoft Flight Simulator.

Please note: Although it is everyone's expectation to be able to max out settings in this simulator using a 2080ti, we do sometimes run back into the same issues we did with P3D and X-Plane which is stutter among other things (at least in my case).

Please also bear in mind the use of AA. Even with a 2080ti, 1080p needs the use of AA to get the best visual quality, which can reduce performance further regardless of the type of GPU.

    MrYorkiesWorld - MSFS Settings

The key is to balance the settings so that you can great quality, but also smooth frame rates, and low temperatures to prolong the life of the GPU. In my case, this is the balance that works well for me currently in this preview version of the sim.

Another thing to take into account is that this is the base version of the simulator, and still a preview at that. Most people will likely need to turn back their settings once third part add-ons such as Orbx scenery, PMDG aircraft, etc. start to be released.

This video, along with the others on my channel that feature the sim can be used as a general guide as to roughly what to expect from the final release version of the simulator, both in terms of performance based on the settings shown and my hardware. However please bear in mind that things can change dramatically between now and the 18th of August 2020, and so the performance you see in this Preview Build using these settings might be completely different to what you see in the final version.

For all of my settings, configs and general information, please see my web site.

So, unlike FSX...It's Graphics Card rather than CPU that makes the most difference?

way too much yappin, Just when you get the sim just put things at 50%. No matter what your machine. then with time you can turn things up or down, as to how your machine presents. One thing for sure do not have anything plugged into Drive J, K. D. etc. You want a clean drive. Also clean c:\ drive. Right click on C:\ scroll down to Properties right click on Properties & it takes you to disk cleanup. I do this twice a week. I also have Webroot and Avast cleaner installed to keep things as clean as possible. And I am working with an Nvidia GTX1050ti which handles Preparv5 very nicely.

Highly informative video, many thanks MrYorkiesWorld!

I have the majority of my simulators on a couple of TB SSD and find that unlike an old mechanical drive...the necessity to keep them tidy, is not so paramount...as is registry cleaning; in other words...leave it alone:

Regarding P3D v5 and the new Flight Simulator..literally worlds apart.

To set the record straight. by right clicking on the C: drive to get to disk cleanup it has nothing to do with the registry. It just cleans up the garbage from Internet, temp file, and garbage dump. I am sure v5 and the new sim are worlds apart. Can't wait to get mine, as I bought the whole 9 yards. I want to own it.

?? Not sure what you mean by this, as I have numerous drives/partitioned installed on my system and I have no issues running multiple simulators.

Perhaps you could clarify your statement?

A clean drive will make absolutely no difference whatsoever in the case of an SSD. If you do "disk cleanup" twice a week with an SSD then you're simply wasting your time. You're also wasting money on third party programs which will also do nothing to help. I have over 10 years' experience working in IT and give this same advice every day to people who believe the big companies out there trying to take people's money with their pointless products.

Additionally, these extra programs will actually slow down your machine. They constantly scan and check your system for "faults". This process will only give your system more to do, which can actually induce stuttering inside the simulator and make your FPS count plummet.

Furthermore, the "yappin" is the whole point of giving people enough information to make a video worthwhile and to help them with their performance issues in the sim. It's what over 7,400 people on my channel make requests for quite regularly. It would be very unrealistic and pointless to make a video which simply gives everyone the same instructions. Every simulator is different, every system is different.

      Hope this helps!

Fantastic information, I have been offline since my last PC crashed in 2015, I had every AI addon, add on high-end planes loaded. Eventually, the PC gave up.
Now I just finished loading the new version today. Wow, a lot of changes. After hours of exploring, only one thing bothered me, I could not find a way out of the program. the Menu bar is gone. Ended up shutting down via desktop.

      Cheers

Interested in an answer. Flyiing Preparv4. everything comes to a halt and it says, "your computer has run out of memory." So i go to disk cleanup and it says, it wants to clean, downloaded products, temp internet files, offline webpages, Direct X shader cache, delivery Optimization files, recycle bin, and finally temporary files. How did they get there? I guess I used my computer prior to signingon to v4. So now what do I do? reboot the computer
? have yet to see AVAST slow down the computer. In my mind files don't delete themselves. If you have a computer that automatically deletes junk files, I think you were very wise on purchasing that setup. On my computer junk files say to me with 2 terrabytes sorry you have run out of memory.

Look for "Exit to Desktop" at the bottom left of the home screen.

That running out of memory message is referring to virtual address space (VAS), not storage space on your hard drive. See the article below from PMDG for more details.

      https://support.precisionmanuals.com...om-errors.aspx

Note that VAS not the same thing either as the amount of physical RAM in the computer either.
