• Microsoft Flight Simulator Development Update

    Microsoft Flight Simulator

Heading into the last week of July the team is excitedly awaiting the arrival of August. There are a number of big updates planned for August and September starting with the V1 release of the Development Roadmap.

Within the next few weeks we’ll be providing the official release date for the Development Roadmap, in the meantime, we’d like to share a few of the deliverables from this plan:

August (Early/Mid) – Insider Program kickoff

    • First batch of content for the Insider Program members is being prepared for delivery:
      • Advanced preview of the Development Roadmap
      • “In-Sim” content – clips captured from build.
      • Preview Build Program – Detailed information on first build deliverable, Insider participation sign-up

    August (Mid/Late) – Development Roadmap Release (v.2019.08/drr1)

    • Development beats through EOY 2019
      • Build Program Recruitment and Release timeline
      • SDK Update
      • 3rd Party Content Update
      • UGC Content Update

August (Late) – Build Program Kickoff

    • Preview Build Program – Detailed information on first preview build deliverable
    • Preview Build Program – Public Participation sign-up
    • Preview Build Program – Preview of next build details

There are two important plans we will be sharing with you in September:

    1. The pipeline for how we will provide an in-depth look at the product we are building.
    2. The process for how we will integrate the community into this process to facilitate a collaborative partnership to bring this product to launch.

Threads on the forums we pay close attention to, are truly valued by the team. So though we may not be directly interacting with you at the moment, we hear you. August is about setting expectations, providing a clear Development Roadmap outlining how we get from today to launch. September is about how we accomplish that task, together.

What the playgame is this? Is MsFS better then XP11 and P3D4?

I am hearing that a subscription will be required to use the new version of FSX. So what happens when Microsoft pulls the plug on this version of FS ? All the effort and money spent in in scenery, aircraft, and paid 3rd party addons are dead as well? On another note I am travel quite a bit so an internet is not always at my disposal.

Hi. I am looking forward to the new product that Microsoft is offering. However I am tuned into P3D4 and think that the dynamics of this sim are hard to beat. So far, Microsoft only showed some eye candy. For real pilots and hard core sim pilots eye candy whilst nice does not alone cut it. I would like to see a beta version of the new sim and I would like to test it before making a splash into the new Microsoft sim. Over the years from FS 3.1 onward I purchased every one of their offerings. Been unhappy about a couple of these offerings in the past. So time will tell I suppose. Regards Franzair

Am I interested? Yes. But a subscription = no deal.

You really need to do some research before you utter pure garbage. This is from the new MSFS website:

"“I want to pay for it in unmarked, non-sequential, low denomination bills, placed in three black plastic bin bags, left on the third floor of an abandoned multi-story car park, at midnight.” – AVSIM User

MSFS – Done. Once you make the drop, head south 3 kilometers. Locate a metal trash bin, retrieve mobile phone at bottom of bin. At 1:06AM text “no subscription”. Await further instruction."

I have a felling on first inception this will crash and burn and will require update after update, ad nauseam in typical M$ fashion.

I won't be surprised if it is subscription based. Anyone with any awareness at all of the IT industry knows that's a growing trend in commercial software licensing. I'm not fond of it, but ... it's your "free" market at work. Pay for it or don't. But, yes, Microsoft is following Adobe's example, it seems, with subscriptions and cumbersome cloud licensing.

Yep, "software as a service" means it's going to receive updates. Run without them at your own risk. All the Internet browsers, Windows, Office, as well as my Linux systems and their apps, all receive bug fixes and updates. That's how you keep them secure and working properly. Ignoring software updates is digital panphobia.

Those who lament that some update trashed their system really ought to consider the value of backing up before updates, software installations, major system changes. It takes time but it's the right thing to do.

That said, we don't know yet about the cost or subscriptions or whatever. Nobody does.

If Microsoft is making efforts to "engage the community", then maybe the doom-and-gloom naysayers will be proven wrong. I hope so.

It's definitely going to be a subscription service due to the fact the game or Sim (what ever this will be) will be using Microsoft's Azure cloud servers. So you have to pay for that bandwidth and storage ability. Your game rewards and everything else will probably be stored in the cloud.

This latest update seems to imply it won't be subscription based. Though it will be good to hear it explicitly stated one way or the other.

Subscriptions can make sense, especially in the corporate world, however, at home there is no way I could justify or afford to pay a subscription for all the software I use.

Hmmm, reading other posts seem, it seems like I am the only one who thinks this new product will be subscription based. I don't trust everything I see or read in the news. Just because the BBC, CNN or some other non-credible source said something happened they way the said it happened, doesn't mean it actually did.

Don't think many trust the news or everything we read on the Internet either. On the other hand, Microsoft themselves directly commented on the subscription question, suggesting that no subscription will be required.

That is why I posted the link to the source. That came from THE MS Flight Simulator website. See this is what I meant in my post about doing research. Why don't you people bookmark the official website and read what they put up there instead of making yourselves look foolish with conjecture. I mean I literally put the link in my post. All you had to do is click on it. I swear people are getting more and more lazy every minute.
