Hello there guys, my name is MrYorkiesWorld, and this is going to be my short, but hopefully to-the-point review of Sim-Wings (published by Aerosoft) Mega Airport Madrid Professional which was very kindly provided to me by my friends over at FlightSim.Com. It's an absolutely fantastic piece of scenery, and one I was really excited to review, so let's get to it...

    Mega Airport Madrid Professional

So a few videos back we flew into Madrid for the first time on the channel with Ryanair flight 3187 from Manchester.

It was a little windy and we did have a last-minute runway change due to the weather, however we did manage to get a glimpse of the terminal buildings and the surrounding areas of the airport. The airport itself being extremely large, did cause our frame rates to dip below 21 FPS at some points, but overall I was very impressed with what I saw.

Now, this Madrid scenery in question from Aerosoft covers LEMD, which is also known as Madrid Barajas Airport, as well as some of the surrounding area. LEMD is the main international airport in the region of Madrid, and it's extremely detailed and looks fantastic in the daytime. During the evening, things start to look even better still.

SODE jetways are supported with this scenery which is great, and the aerial imagery actually covers an area of around 400 square kilometers, covering both the airport itself, and the surrounding areas.

There is also the option to configure the airport to use north or south approaches if that's something you wish to change, and a detailed AFCAD is also included which contains the correct parking positions and approach procedures. I found this to really help with the immersion and made the scenery feel more authentic.

One of the great things about this scenery is that according to the special features list, all of the code (BGL files) are compiled using P3D V4 SDK, making it perfectly optimized for P3D V4 and onwards.

The only issues I did find that could contradict the above are the stutters and frame rate issues that I experienced when landing at the airport. This happened even when I reduced some of the optional elements of the scenery during the install procedure.

As many of you will know from my previous reviews, I have a pretty beefy system with an Intel Core i9 9900k and a GTX 1080TI, but even with this, I still struggled with frame rate issues at times, occasionally going below 25 FPS. Not a huge issue, but definitely something the developers should look at.

Taking into consideration how large and complex the airport is though, I'd have to say this might have something to do with the low FPS, and it might be the case that there is literally nothing you can do about it. Overall though, the scenery works well, and looks great, so that's literally just me being critical about the performance.

The config tool included with this scenery also allows you to control dynamic lights by enabling or disabling them depending on your preference. I personally prefer to have them enabled for extra immersion, since I also use a third-party lighting tool called Black Marble from Chris Bell.

I decided to take quite a few different shots of the evening time in this scenery because in my opinion it looks amazing (better than when totally black). It really gives you the feeling you're there in real life, and it's great when you're departing or arriving in the evening.

All gates and stands in the airport have functional docking systems, and the airport terminals themselves also have objects visible through the windows which I found to be a nice touch (these are probably more noticeable at night).

One thing I would like to see in this scenery though are more detailed ground textures in the surrounding areas, such as where the static model aircraft is located just outside of the airport grounds. Although this is modelled and looks great, you can see that the ground textures around it are a little pixelated. Perhaps the developers could improve on this in some way. Again, this is me being critical and it's not something which I feel is essential in order to enjoy the scenery.

Moving on from evening to night, I found the lighting to be good, but there where areas which I felt could have been improved on. One example being that I found the runway lights weren't as bright as they could be, but this might be due to my own set of in-sim configurations (you could try modifying this with the Global Lights Configurator from Orbx, or a similar tool.

I also observed that the night lighting looked rather synthetic and unrealistic once it was fully dark, and not as good as it looked in the evening time around sunset. However, this is not something that would stop me buying this scenery, and it may just be down to my own settings as previously mentioned.

So, as I like to keep the written element of my reviews as short as possible and to the point, how would I rate Aerosoft's Mega Airport Madrid Professional out of 10? Well, with everything taken into consideration, I feel the scenery is worth a solid 8.5 out of 10, with the only reason for not making it a 9 being down to the performance and lighting issues. As mentioned, I am quite critical when reviewing these sorts of products, and I try to be as honest as possible.

    Thanks for reading!
