• Review: Just Flight - Duchess Model 76

In terms of how the Duchess performed on my hardware, I have to say I was impressed, especially when you factor in that my PC is far from modern! There were no noticeable slowdowns, which was quite something when you factor in the complexity of the model involved.

    Exterior model

Just Flight claim that this aircraft is an accurately modelled Duchess, built using real-world aircraft plans and comprehensive photography of its real-life counterpart, and I agree with this statement. The exterior model is quite exquisite and includes weathering in all the relevant areas, with good attention to detail overall. One of the things I particularly liked about the model, was how the exterior featured antennas and similar equipment that are applicable to the internal instrumentation in the cockpit. One small point I would like to mention, is that the black marks trailing from the exhaust are (by the look of things) not accurate. For me it looked as if a simple black triangle was placed in that area. However, even with this, I have to give the developers top marks for their exterior modelling.

    Cockpit And Instrumentation

In much the same way as the exterior, the interior also shows signs of age. All of the instruments work as they should, and the layout is both pleasing and logical. One thing I would have liked to have seen is a bit of engine vibration from the panel, but sadly this wasn't present. Overall though, I found the gauges and cockpit of Just Flight's Duchess highly accurate with some truly fantastic 3D modelling!

The samples used to reproduce the engines sounds are truly impressive! The feeling of sitting between two powerful engines is quite something and feels highly authentic. Also included are the sounds of the many switches found in the main panel. Along with the engines, it's an audiophile's dream!

The landing lights were strong and bright, but I found the strobes lacking. Whilst there was illumination of sort, it would have been nice to have seen some lighting on the airframe.

Internally, there were brightness options available for the instrumentation, and on and off switches for the dome lights.

This is certainly one of the more difficult reviews I have done, but enjoyable none the less! Just Flight have managed to get the majority of things right with this aircraft, but at the same time there are a few issues as well (hopefully these will be addressed in future updates). Despite this, the aircraft is still fun to fly and looks beautiful.

Flying the Duchess is an amazing experience, and one which most pilots will enjoy.

Very nice review. Got quite a few hours in this model, so it's nice to see it featured.
