    Review: Wing42 Lockheed Vega

    By Michael Hayward

    Wing42 Lockheed Vega

The Vega is a high-wing monoplane designed and built by Lockheed in the late 1920s. Designed as a long-distance passenger, cargo and recreational aircraft, it set many records worldwide - Amelia Earhart flew one across the Atlantic for the first time and Wiley Post used it to prove the existence of the jet stream.

Wing42 are a new developer on the flight simulator scene, with this being their first product released. In this review, I shall look in detail at this aircraft and the features that it brings to you.

One thing that I will also mention is that at the time of writing this review, the aircraft is very much in an 'early access' stage. This means that while the aircraft is functional, there are numerous more features to come - This is something I'll go into detail with throughout this review.

      Hi Nels,

Lovely review. Thank you very much. Two points:

      1. I wish there was the additional long range (non-glazed cabin) model and the famous repaints (Winnie Mae and the red one used by Amelia Earhart). Maybe a good suggestion for the development team to add into later updates or versions.

      2. You state it is available for 25€ while on early access. I followed the link and it is for sale for 30€, not 25€. Moreover while your 20% discount code is accepted and displayed, it is not included in -or deducted off- the total calculation. You still get prompted to pay 30€ at the checkout. In accordance with your review, one should be able to get the early access model for 25€, plus your 20% discount, and that should yield a 20€ final price. Not the case at all.

Best wishes and thank you once more for a great review.

I'll definitly pop over a message to the developer now to consider adding that to their model!

While away in Finland, the price was increased as the aircraft reached a new major step in development, I never got a chance to message Nels to update the article as I was pre-occupied in getting myself in and out of the British Embassy to get Emergency Travel Documentation home - This will be corrected as soon as possible, I apologise for the confusion. As for the voucher not working, this I will inform to the developer now to get fixed as you are right, the discount price is not being reflected in the purchase.

      Hey guys,

Otmar here from Wing42. This was a bit of bad timing, since our update to version 0.04 just coincided with this review being published. I'd encourage you to have a look at the list of new features over here, since those points were not covered by Michael's review yet. I am aiming to release new updates every ~2 months. Each update will greatly increase the list of features, thus increasing the value of the product you purchase - hence now the 30 Euros, instead of the initial 25 Euros.

I had a look at the discount situation and noticed a few things:
      1. The code mentioned on the last page of the review is not correct, it was supposed to be 'DRAWYAH20' (note the 'H', instead of the 'Y'). No big deal, I just added the code mentioned here as well, so both versions will work on the site.
      2. I recently updated the shop-software to the latest version and with it came an issue where the total cost is not displayed correctly on the shopping cart/checkout when applying a discount code. If you proceed with the checkout, PayPal actually calculates the correct total and only charges the discounted price! It only means that I have to manually unlock the aircraft after your purchase (the shop software produces a payment error due to the mismatch).
I'm working on finding a solution for this problem and post down here when it's resolved. But just to reiterate this point: You can safely purchase the aircraft as it is right now using either of the discount codes mentioned above, you simply need to ignore the wrong sum and the error that you'll see once the purchasing process is completed and wait a bit until I manually unlock your download (I'm usually really quick with that, but it depends a bit on your timezone ).

I hope that clarifies the points mentioned, but please feel free to contact me directly if you have further questions - there's a contact form on the website that goes straight to my email.

Thank you Michael for your detailed and fair review! I'm very proud of your endorsement!

      Cheers,
      Otmar/Vitus, Wing42

We paid 25 for the original release when it first came out. I fail to see why you should get it for that price and certainly not for less.
Winnie Mae has already been mentioned and is going to be added as you will se if you read the forum at wing24.

      Cheers Chris
