• PMDG Announces Global Flight Operations

    PMDG

At FlightSimExpo PMDG made a greatly anticipated anouncement about a new product intended to change the flightsim world environment.

"Global Flight Operations" will provide a flightsim world that is persistant. Aircraft within the world will have a history of use, repair, damage, etc. and the plane you fly will reflect that history.

    PMDG Global Flight Operations

The PMDG Operations Center will provide a realistic ACARS system much like the real world uses. You'd start by logging into this system and would

    • Pick a plane
    • Pick your livery
    • Pick your sim
    • Pick your weather source

Once you check the plane out it becomes "yours" and no one else can use it with the system until you are done with it.

During your flight you would use ACARS just like real planes do both to get information and to report your status. On arrival, the system would find a gate appropriate to your aircraft and direct you there. The actual ACARS radio network has been modeled so you must be within the service volume to get service. Satellite and ground service is modeled.

Virtual airlines can have their own environment, with data for their users only.

After the flight, you have options:

    • Check in the airplane
    • Forget the whole thing
    • Redo

There are three tiers of connectivity. The system can thus handle most aircraft, with features varying. Aircraft with built-in FMS get more features.

It sounds like this is still in alpha development and even more features are planned.

PMDG spokesman Robert Randazzo reports this concept has been years in the making. Once available, it will offer a whole new level of realism to simulated flight.
