    Introduction

In 1957, Cessna introduced to the general aviation market what would evolve, over the next thirty years, from a four-seat, semi-cantilever winged aircraft into one of the most popular six-seat, cantilever-wing single-engine aircraft ever produced at 9,240 examples (data from Wikipedia).

    The Carenado Centurion

The Carenado team have created this model exclusively for X-Plane 11. The list of special features for this model on their web site states: "State-of-the-art configurable FPS-friendly logic system, largely VR compatible, and full PBR (Physics-Based Rendering) giving superb material shines and reflections."

I have not yet tried X-Plane 11 in VR, but I can report that through the pop-up menu located on the left side of the screen (A>, C>, O>) you can indeed exert some more control over frame rates through the O> menu, by selecting ON or OFF on the windshield glass and instrument dial reflections. This menu also allows you to manipulate the aircraft doors and change the aircraft livery on-the-fly without going into the main X-Plane menus.

The A> menu is reserved for the King autopilot panel, which I find is actually a bit redundant as you can achieve the same result by mouse clicking on the face of the autopilot on the aircraft instrument panel; both will cause a larger sized pop-up of the instrument which can be conveniently moved around the screen with your mouse. That said, it's certainly nice to have options. The C> menu contains options for adjusting the field-of-view, volume and a variety of camera positions both inside and outside the aircraft.

Other features touted by Carenado are specifically designed engine dynamics, optimized flight physics, ground handling physics, physics-based rendering of materials and textures created using software used by the film and gaming industries, support for the RealityXP GTN750 plugin, compatibility with the Goodway flight planning software, and true-to-life aircraft behavior as well as weight and balance (verified by several real-world pilots for maximum accuracy).

    What's Inside The Box?

You can purchase your Centurion directly from Carenado or you can get it right here at the FS Pilot Shop in the usual formats.

According to info available at the Carenado web site, included in the 382.7 MB download from the FSPilotShop are the following:

    • 5 high definition liveries
    • 1 hi-def blank texture; you can paint your own masterpiece...
    • Bendix/King KFC225 autopilot manual PDF
    • Recommended settings for X-Plane 11 PDF
    • 32 page normal and emergencies checklist, including performance tables PDF
    • Single page V-speeds quick reference PDF

While not exhaustive, the provided information is just what an X-Plane pilot needs to get started with the Carenado Centurion.

Great review. I feel tempted to add to my hangar for two reasons. Support Carenado for them to develop more Aircraft for XP11 (hopefully a decent CRJ9) and to take it out for a spin here and there to keep my VFR skills sharp.
