    It is with great sadness that we announce the future closure of Flight Sim World.

    As you know, we always had a strong ambition to bring a new experience into the established world of flight simulation, one that deliberately overhauled both the flying experience and the graphical fidelity, offering new ways to fly.

    Unfortunately, after many detailed discussions, we regrettably don't see a clear direction that will allow us to keep to the development time we'd want, alongside the player numbers we need.

    So, slightly before a year since we first launched into Early Access, we have made the intensely difficult decision to fully scale back all future development on Flight Sim World and remove it from sale on 24th May.

    We're sure you have lots of questions, we hope we've answered a few here.

    FAQ

    What happens to Flight Sim World if I already own it?

    It will remain in your Steam library, available to play in its current format.

    Will the sim be taken off sale?

    Yes, and we're working to the date of 24th May 2018. We want to give anyone who does not yet own a copy of the sim enough time to get a copy and keep it safe in their library for future play.

    What will happen to any Add-Ons?

    Add-Ons will also come off sale, but those you already own will still also be in your Steam library.

    We hope you can give the team the respect they deserve for their tireless hard work to date. Please know that all of us here at Dovetail hold flight simulation, the creators of add-on content, and especially you, the community for this sim, in incredibly high regard for both your support and time with Flight Sim World.

      I'm very sorry to hear that flightsim world is closing. It has been nothing but good to me since day 1 everyone at flightsim world needs a pat on the back for their hard work WELL DONE ALL OF YOU .

      I just read about this on Facebook from PMDG's page. They weren't surprised either and apparently didn't care for how they did things.

      Im fortunate enough to have not spent a lot on this. I bought it two sales ago, and played around with it, but never got really into it. It's very unfortunate, though. it seemed so promising; the only real issue I had with it, is that it never seemed like a complete product. It just needed a bit more development as far as I'm concerned. I grew up on MSFS, and played 95 all the way through FSX, and FSX:SE. FSW was the last shot at keeping that alive. I guess I'll be sticking with X-plane after all.

      Well, that is a total bummer! That simulator had a lot of potential.
      I really hate to see this happen after all of the team's hard work.

      Such a shame, at Cosford 2017 at the seminar i mentioned to the Main man speaking, why not open the Flight Sim up to the Community to allow us to create content for the community eg. Airports, Aircraft, and scenery and if he had gone with my suggestion he may have won the trust of the real Flight Sim World eg. (The Users) But instead he shot me down and said this is not the way i won't to run this company.... Ex... Well i now now he has lost total trust of the Flight Sim Community. Congratulations Stephen Hood.

      Not sure if this is a scam or advertising fraud. This is like a someone building 2 stories out of a 10-story apartment, accepting a bunch of tenants that are paying full rent, asking the tenants to hang around at the commons until the building is completed, then ditching the whole project altogether. Money in the bank, but also a bunch of angry customers who didn't get what they paid for.

      This is how Trump did business with the proposed Trump Tower in Tampa. A lot of people paid 700k+ up front and then they shelved the whole thing, and no one got a dime back. That being said, I am not surprised nor am I broken up by this. I had Flightschool so got FSW for free and couldn't really run either very well, yet, I can P3Dv3 and FSX:SE with no issues. I pretty much stopped everything with FSW after it was nothing but a slide show even with very low settings. They should have bought the Flight rights and worked with that instead of FSX and run it into the ground. They should take that base code and update it for 64bit like Lockheed did with ESP, and stick with a format that works and leave Steam the hell out of it.

      It's a pity really. I hope they change their mind and at least sell the IP to someone who can give (hopefully) more successful try at finishing it.

      It was always very limited, never any airliners available, or decent scenery. Maybe someone will pick it up and sort these two massive problems out?

      I feel bad for people that paid $40 and also the talented developers that lost their jobs, not to mention the third party developers that invested in making products for this platform.

      I thought they'd be in this for the long haul and give it 2-3 years to flesh out the simulator, at least get jets and IFR done and maybe a real world weather engine. It seemed they were not too far from getting that done and I bet sales would have picked up, since that what customers actually wanted, not a VFR sim with nothing but piston props and dated looking scenery based on a terrain engine designed in 2005.

      If the goal was to have a big user base in the first year and get a lot of FSX:SE users to come on board, they took entirely the wrong approach to this. They needed backward compatibility for addons and have the features the bulk of users wanted at release time, not spend a whole year trying to sell mission packs. Did they really think mission packs were going to drive a lot of sales? DTG management was clearly clueless beyond belief.

      I (and others) begged them over and over to work with the guys at fsdeveloper to get developer tool support: MCX, ADE, SbuilderX etc. All these suggestions were ignored. They changed the file formats so those tools wouldn't work. They seemed to have the crazy idea that all flight simmers want is to fly missions based on piston prop aircraft.

      A Very Promising developer nipped in the bud!! I was just waiting for the "Heavies" before committing but it was not to be. Sad to see them go, A very Promising bunch of smart developers and it is Very Very Disappointing to see them fold like this. Hope you pass it on to other developers who can carry their torch!! Thank you for all you did but truly gutted and disappointing to see you guys go like this. Best wishes from Canada.

      Good bye. I have stuck with FSX and will remain doing so unless all the add-on publishers I purchase from were to switch to other flight sims.

      Fortunately I got FSW for free (well kinda because I bought their earlier Flight School), but I never really bought into the FSW model anyway, despite being mainly a prop and VFR flyer. I couldn't care less about tubeliners, and although the sim ran smoothly on my PC, I never liked the scenery or their super-duper new cloud tech. ATC and a decent weather engine would also have been nice, but the biggest deterrent for me was the inability to use my FSX/P3D add-ons. Apparently there was a way to get some to work, but it seemed way too complicated and tentative.

      I think in the end, the flight sim market just wasn't big enough for all the new players and it is unfortunate that FSW launched around the same time as P3D4, XP11 and Aerofly2. Perhaps if it launched two years earlier, it would have been a different story, but they still would have had a hard time for not listening to end-users. One of my personal gripes was that there was no way to disable TrackIR in external views, resulting in the camera swinging around with your head instead of smoother control with a joystick hat switch, keyboard or other device. Despite posting two or three times, my request (like so many others) was just ignored.
