    Orbx has come to X-Plane...

The following review describes my thoughts and experience of the recently released KCGX Merrill C. Meigs Field for X-Plane 11. When asked to review this first X-Plane release from the Orbx Simulation Systems team I was genuinely excited, as never having owned scenery from this team, I was really intrigued to experience first-hand if all the wonderful things I had read and heard were really true. Purchase, Download, Documentation And Installation

As I mentioned, this was my very first experience of Orbx Simulation Systems, and as such, step one was to create an account over at their web site to allow me to purchase the scenery. This was very simple and a literally a two-minute job. The first thing that struck me was just the quality of their site, very impressive. Scrolling through the various screen shots was already filling me with a good feeling about what was about unfold. So far so good I thought...

Once my account was set up, being a Windows user, I was able to use their FTX Central installer to download and install the scenery. At this time, this is only for Windows, so my understanding is if you are on other platforms such as Linux or MacOS, for now, you will have to manually download and install the scenery, but that is really no different to the majority of other scenery out there. The whole download is quoted as being about 0.8 GB in size, so it will take a little while to download, however when it is all done, you will end up with three folders in your Custom Scenery folder. These are a base mesh, an overlay folder with buildings, vegetation, facades, etc. and the main airport scenery folder. I really liked the use of the installer, it was just so easy and again the look of the whole thing is extremely professional. I do advise you to check your scenery.ini file just to ensure everything is in the right order, however everything in my case was fine and with no conflicts. FTX Central will also give you access to the User Guide and also a means of uninstalling the scenery if you so wish. The User Guide can also be found within the main scenery folder if you don't want to run the tool every time, which is handy.

The guide itself is well presented and provides basic information around installation, which areas are covered by the scenery, where to get tech help if required, acknowledgements, license information, etc., and I found the whole thing to be self-explanatory.

Hello Stuart McGregor....I tried to find you to send a personal message, not sure if I was successful or not in that regard.

I am working continually to improve the look and feel of my XP11 setup. I have this Orbx airport and area and its great, highly recommend it.

However, I am interested in your sky colours and reduced haze look in the screen shots. I have tried several things like lua scripts and reshade and will now try FS Enhancer. Can you please advice on what your are using to achieve your sky colour and level of haze in the screenies?
