Hello and welcome to an in depth review of the recently released scenery of Bali Ngurah Rai International Airport for X-Plane 11 by Aerosoft.

WADD, also known as Denpasar International Airport, is located in southern Bali, 13 km south of Denpasar. It is Indonesia's third-busiest international airport.

    Installation

Installing the package is simplicity itself. After unzipping the compressed folder 'ASD-047', you will find two individual folders. One is for the main airport scenery and the other for the static aircraft (more on this later). Place both folders into your custom scenery directory, and then (with Notepad, or similar), edit your Scenery_Packs.ini file, making sure that your main airport scenery has priority over the static aircraft entry.

    First Impressions

If you've read any of my previous reviews, you will know that I'm a fan of Aerosoft scenery, so with that said, let's jump in and see if this one lives up to the pedigree of their previous releases.

On opening the scenery, I find myself all alone at Gate 53, far from home in a place I've never been to before. Straight away I'm aware that this is not your usual concrete block international airport, but rather a fusion of pagoda style buildings with the function of a modern airport. The row of repeated traditional buildings are aesthetically pleasing and a far cry from JFK International. It seems strange to see modern passenger bridges emanating from the modern parts of the terminal interspersed with the traditional ones, but the strange thing about it though, is it works beautifully.

The main runway of Bali International extends out into the bay, which is a deep blue and green in color and looks totally inviting! In their wisdom, Aerosoft have providing a separate file for the static aircraft and in my opinion this is a great idea, as it allows the user to have the option of having either the standard Aerosoft static aircraft, the user's own, or none at all. The numerous ground textures - apron concrete, taxiway markings, plus the lush green grass (which is abundant around the airport), look and work really well.

    Surrounding Scenery

Something often forgotten by scenery developers, is that life goes on beyond the airport walls. All too often a fantastic scenery is let down by an abrupt and sudden cut off of life! Luckily for us though, Aerosoft have taken this into account. As I elevate my view out of the airport proper, a whole extra dimension opens up in front of me, with hundreds of varied buildings, roads and carefully placed foliage coming into view. These features extend to the headland and island in the bay. The roads are well placed with free flowing traffic between the mainland and the island. Checking against Google Earth, the placement of the whole scenery is very accurate. To top it all off, the mountains in the distance are particularly pleasing to the eye.

    Ortho Textures

Not being a great fan of ortho ground textures, I'm pleased to report that Aerosoft have kept them to an acceptable level, although on the roundabout near the harbor bridge, there are fully animated roads with traffic on one side and ortho textures of a road with flat cars on the other. As an amateur scenery maker, this makes no sense, as the creation of an extra animated road would be a two minute job.

Very nice scenery. I hope there is some AI traffic. In FSX there is none in this scenery. All alone
