RCS WW2 Air Transport Command Monthly Flights

During WW2 the Army Air Corps formed the "Largest Airline in the World" better known as Air Transport Command or ATC.

It had two main missions, the first being the delivery of supplies and equipment between the United States and the overseas combat theaters; the second was the ferrying of aircraft from the manufacturing plants in the United States to where they were needed for training or for operational use in combat. ATC also operated a worldwide air transportation system for military per personnel. Major General Henry H. Arnold established the Air Corps Ferrying Command on May 29, 1941, to deliver lend-lease aircraft overseas from the USA. Commanded and organized by Brig. Gen. Robert Olds, the mission of the new command was, first, "to move aircraft by air from factories to such terminals as may be designated by the Chief of the Air Corps," and second, "to maintain such special air ferry services [i.e., air transport services] as may be required to meet specific situations."

Rolling Cumulus Software has published many WW2 ATC kits and now for the first time in sim history has formed RCS Air Transport Command Monthly Flights for all pilots who would like to fly the many different routes ATC flew during the war.

How do pilots get to fly the WW2 ATC Dangerous Skies?

    1. Join by filling the enclosed Form in our web site http://rollingcumulus.jigsy.com/ww2-atc-monthly-flights
    2. Once you are accepted you will receive a confirmation E-mail
    3. Every month you will receive a link to the "Monthly Flight Episode" which includes "photo scenery airfields", description of the flight and a map for the flight with the respective route plus a short manual.
    4. After the flight--Pilot MUST send a screen pic of "His plane in FRONT of the finish spot at the destination airfield" the parking spot will be indicated in the instructions. This pic becomes his flight report. Obviously RCS can't verify if the flight was made correctly so it will "Trust the communication of the pilot."
    5. All pilots will be posted in the "RCS ATC Roster"--each pilot starts as a "Lieutenant and after 10 flights receives his Captain wings"
    6. The monthly flight has to be made within the a 30 day period after download. If the pilot does not make the flight he will be discharged from the service and sent home from whatever base he landed last! RCS ATC Command will check this by comparing the pilot's report with the date of the sent Link to the flight kit.

The theaters of operation will follow the real ones ATC serviced:

    • A) Within the USA delivering aircraft from factory to embarkation ports and training schools
    • B) Transfering personnel and planes to the operation theaters using the various routes over the oceans
    • C) Pacific intratheater flights
    • D) India, The Hump, China and Burma Theater
    • E) Northern Route to Europe
    • F) Alaska Route to Russia
    • G) Important VIP Flights in all Theaters of Operations
    • H) European Intratheater

Pilots will be assigned his aircraft in the flight manual of the flight. Note that only the real aircraft flown by ATC in the regular routes will be accepted. If a special one is needed it will be notified and a link to a freeware one will be given.
