• Where in the World Feature 100

This is Where in the World #100!

    Answer

Our last location featured Beirut, one of my favorite FS hub cities. Arguably Cairo or Alexandria or Mombassa or Chennai might have been included but Where in the World #4 had us in Tyre, Lebanon.

Where In The World 99     Where In The World 99

    Those who guessed:

    John Chen
    Nick Watson
    Eric Ellis
    Charlie Aron
    Pete Middleton
    Reid Gearhart
    Daniel Belair
    Joe Bowers
    Khalid Alizzi
    Bob Bina
    Brendan McCoy
    Dick Bronson
    Vinnie Terranova
    Christian Bachmann
    Ulf Kristoffersson
    Ira Brotherston
    Roger Wensley
    Thomas Oftedal
    Mike Guttman

    Wrong locations:

    • Haifa (never featured Jerusalem or Tel Aviv)
    • Dar es Salaam (been to Entebbe but nothing in Tanzania)

    The Future

I guess if people want to see more episodes they'll need to submit more locations; I've been asking for more submissions over the past year and I had seven locations from five people. Currently I have no plans and no requests for for any future WITW Features.

    Where In The World 100

    Feature #100

If the Cub Flounder were to go plane spotting he'd most likely go here. Where in the World is "here"? Email your answer to [email protected].

    Thanks

It's been TEN YEARS guys! My, how the time flys! Of course, this feature would never have worked / lasted without you all submitting locations and guesses so thanks to you for this long- standing success. Additionally, of course, we must thank the faculty and staff at www.flightsim.com for their undying support of this project and their willingness to publish these features nearly every month and oftentimes on very short notice. When I took hiatus during Features 40 - 50, "Capt. Dee" stepped in to keep things alive; and finally, I need to thank my dear wife for not only allowing me time on the sim occassionally but actually for inventing the Where in the World concept and idea to begin with.

Congratulations, and commendations for the original work you are doing. This column is one of the cleverest and most challenging on flight sim dot com. Thank you ever so much for keeping this up for ten years. Best wishes.

I have to confess that I did not need to puzzle over the Beirut location, so no gold medal. I just recognised the photo.

And the downtown photo of a rebuilt and pedestrianised city centre features one of the streets that my company prepared files for, on how and what standards would apply to the buildings as they were repaired.
