The Canadair Regional Jet or CRJ family is a series of aircraft developed and built by Bombardier since 1991. Initially a Challenger 600, it was lengthened and converted into a commercial aircraft for shorter, regional routes. 1,825 airframes have been built as of March 2017.

    Aerosoft - CRJ 700/900 X

During the summer of 2017, Aerosoft teamed with Digital Aviation to release the CRJ X pack which includes both the CRJ 700 and CRJ 900 aircraft variants. With development starting in 2010, seven years have gone into creating this flight simulator aircraft, meaning a lot is expected from Digital Aviation.

During this review, I will look in-depth at each feature that this aircraft includes and also discuss what this aircraft brings to the flight simming community.

The fact that there is no 2D cockpit just caused me to decide to Not purchase this aircraft. Shame, too.

Never went with this aircraft since I don't like/hate the cockpit layout and the aircraft itself, nothing to do with aerosoft's workminship! Insted, I went with the Majestic Q400 and I'm a happycamper.

Now, if someone could come out with a quality and fair-priced Embraer ERJ 175-190......

You said it Darryl. Theses after market aircraft have gotten to be way over priced. I'm sure this CRJ is nice but it's not worth $55. Then they want to charge even more to to send you a hard copy on a 25 cent disk. Come on. We just want fair-priced aircraft.

I don't mind the developers reaping a fair profit from my purchase but the high prices keep me from buying very many. Maybe something for them to consider is going for quantity with a lower reasonable price instead of overpricing their software. I'd rather sell 1000 at 20 bucks than 300 at $55. I'm just sayin.

In contrast to above reviewers, my view is this aircraft hits the big leagues for flight sim and joins my hangar with usual top tier suspects that meet different needs. While the cockpit is not as modern (CRT's smaller) than more modern aircraft like the ERJ 175, I find it very well laid out in both RW and how it has been rendered in the sim. With EZ doc in my case, navigating through the flows is a pleasure to the point I do not activate track IR.

I'm a new RW CRJ pilot as well and got a kick when ATC took us off a routing that we were following a ERJ175 and then put us ahead to land in the same airport... why, because the CRJ is the "hot rod" of regional aircraft. I enjoy this distinction in the simulated world as well.

Regarding the 2D and 3D debate, I find this was the perfect setup and fixes a problem I have had in the past. By quickly clicking on the PFD, MFD, EICAS displays the are essential to keep in view during critical times and them remaining in place while being able to make the needed selections around the cockpit works great. I have stopped using (except for FMC on ipad) monitors because the positioning is not correct to provide the needed immersion. I suspect that builders a full cockpits that better replicate a real cockpit are the ones who may need more 2D functionality perhaps.

I'm only waiting for the needed 3rd party support to get my VR insight MCP to integrate because that is essential.

I'm honestly blown away how deep the simulation is to for example to be able to conduct many of the tests provide mostly accurately and proper representations in the synoptic pages. Deeper than for mentioned aircraft. I also find that it was a mostly very polished product on release and first fix additional polishing seems to be underway. I'm thankful for the team who has released this product and Aerosoft producing another winner like the F14. Finally, I continue to be amazed that Aerosoft or other publishers of high quality (this is) non commercial flight simulation can offer the product at these price points and thus I consider them a bargain for anyone who understand the cost of even simple computer coding and cost.

Note, I have a "stock" Alien Ware R5 GTX 1080 by following instruction provided (like not overthinking the controls setup... using other drivers) it has no required tweaking to work very well.

How can you fairly judge the price of the aircraft and not even own it? That is just crazy. Seven years of development work have gone into this project. The price is actually cheap given many other facts. I’d hate to know what you think PMDG aircraft should go for....

      +1

Or, perhaps that should be minus one on their sales total, as I won't be buying it either.

No 2D cockpit = No Sale!

It's simple to judge the price of the these aircraft, $55.00 is to much. I don't need to own it to make that determination. I'm sure it's well designed software, that not in question. Simple marketing (which I'm very familiar with) will tell you as the price (not value) goes up, the pool of potential buyers goes down. That's where I'm at, the product is simply overpriced. Especially when you figure in the silliness of wanting an extra $5 plus shipping for a hard copy.

As I said before why don't these developers go for quantity, seems to work for other software companies.

PMDG is just totally over the top on their prices. You'd probably be surprised how few they actually sell.

      Hi Folks,

      Well said...

While I was one of the diehard FS9 2D panel guys until P3Dv3 came along - skipped FSX altogether - does anyone still supply 2D panels ? We have so many monitor proportions now (4:3, 16:9, 16:10, 21:9) - it would be next to impossible to create panels for each monitor aspect ratio- hence - the demise of 2D panels... With Track IR and now ChasePlane - I no longer miss 2D...

As for the cost - the Majestic Q400 comes around $100.00, PMDG around $150.00, and FSL around $200.00... A price point around $50.00 today for a good aircraft simulation seems more than reasonable... Its also the top end of what I’ll spend - hence - I don’t use then aforementioned brands (I did pick up the Majestic Pro on a great sale last holiday season for around $50.00)...

I’ve been looking for a plane to replace my venerable ERJ from FS9 and I think this is it... Knowing that Digital Aviation created my favorite plane of all time in FS - the Piper Cheyenne - inspires confidence...

      Regards,
      Scott

All these whiners telling us why they won't buy. Could have, Should have, Would have. Well I will buy it because it fills a gap in the market and because it is by Aerosoft and that usually represents high quality and $55 is good value, about the same as an evening out at the cinema e.g. and it keeps giving for way more than one evening and some forgettable movie.

No one is whining barkboy. Some of us just have a realistic view of what's a "good value" and what's overpriced.
