Fernando L. R. Dominicci (TJIG) is a small commercial airport on a peninsula near downtown San Juan, Puerto Rico, and six miles west of San Juan International Airport. Its primary use is general aviation with some commercial and military operations. Sky Vector shows 102,932 total annual operations with 83 percent general aviation, 14 percent commercial and 3 percent military. Of the 232 aircraft based at this airport, only 8 percent are military.

This airport served as Puerto Rico's primary international airport from its construction just before World War II until 1954 when the current international airport was opened. It served as the U.S. Coast Guard Air Station until 1971. Covering 102 acres, it has one asphalt runway 5,539 long by 100 feet wide (1,689 meters by 31 meters). It was named after F-111 pilot Major Fernando Luis Ribas-Dominicci, who was killed in action during the 1986 air strikes against Muammar Gaddafi's Libya.

    PhotoRico's Fernando L. R. Dominicci Scenery

As shown in my top-down screen capture, PhotoRico Scenery focuses on the TJIG airport, areas immediately surrounding it to the north, east and south and other features a few miles to the west. It does not include San Juan's major international airport. It consists of custom structures laid atop photoreal texture and populated with numerous static aircraft and animated road traffic. Depictions of structures on and around the airport are realistic and accurate compared with real-world photographs.

    Looking West

PhotoRico's depiction of this airport is remarkably detailed and accurate. The terminal, tower, hangars, National Guard facility, movement areas, pavement markings and static aircraft give this airport a realism that is totally overlooked in the default FSX scenery. Its heavy population of parked aircraft essentially reflects the real world photographs. PhotoRico remarkably doesn't say anything about these airport features in its product description. By comparison, the FSX default depiction of this airport is not only modest but inadequate.
